This is the speaker Eminence recommends as the most comparable speaker to swap with the stock Fender speaker (flattest response). Has anyone done this yet and if so, how did you find it to be?

Well with no responses I've ordered one and it's on the way - will report back! Principally I'm curious to see if the output level is not only hotter but cleaner at high levels. Currently the clean models, Blackface Clean for example, break up if pushed.

Not that I have worked mine that hard. I would still like to hear about what you come up with on sound and the difference with the new speaker. What is the particular speaker you are getting?

Eminence Beta-10A. That was their recommendation if you keep the stock tweeter and just replace the 10". Supposed to arrive today - will report back!

I'd really be interested to know how it sounds too. Where did you order it from? I'd like to get a little better tone overall.

If that llink doesn't work just search for Eminence Beta-10A. $69.99 and free shipping. I installed it just yesterday so I'm still feeling it out. First impressions: I would not say it's appreciably more efficient (louder), but it decidedly has a tighter and more pronounced lower end. I might end up tweaking individual patches 'cause there's too much low in some. I don't think the highs are different though there's a tendency to think there not as bright only because I've now got more bottom. The amp still starts to break up past about 7 (I was hoping that it was partly due to the stock speaker), but really at 7 that's some pretty punishing volume for practice purposes. It's difficult to A/B since there's a fair amount of effort in swapping speakers back and forth (you don't get a proper comparison unless the back is closed), but I've no regrets in the extra $$. It just feels more like a 12" than a 10" - it's got oomph to it I didn't feel with the stock speaker. But I also have to say in retrospect the stock speaker really isn't a bad speaker at all. And as mentioned in another thread the speaker connectors (one of them) is a different size than what's on the cable from the amp so you have to decide how to connect. The shrink sleeve on mine was tight enough I was able to jam them together and the connection is good without having to strip and solder. One other important point: at least on my amp getting the back cover off is a BEAR. Very tight fitting, took lots of jiggling and cajoling to get it off.

But really, I won't know how this speaker behaves until its broken in. That'll take some time. The Ragin Cajun also gets high marks, but Eminence recommended disconnecting the stock tweeter if you got that route. The Beta-10A was recommended if you just want to swap out the 10". Rated at 250W @ 8 ohms, so hard to imagine I'm going to hurt it with any patch at any level :)

My G-Dec 30 was starting to sound bad at lower freq., so after reading this thread, I got an Eminence Patriot "The Copperhead" speaker and replaced the stock fender spkr. What a difference! They recommended it as a replacement for the G-Dec spkr. I'd call it an upgrade. :D
