So I've got a background hiss/digital alias/snare hiss thing going on with the G-Dec 3 30 thats made the amp virtually unplayable for me. It isnt normal static, it isnt hum from my pups, it isnt just the normal background noise from high gain amps, and I've tried different electrical outlets. It is only there when a note is played andnit decays as the note decays. Its on some of the cleaner amp models too (tweed clean). Ive posted on this before - includes some specific settings to hear this fizz (have also seen it described as a snare hiss):

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=58620

And I think it may be the same "digital alias" thing that Mustang owners have been complaining about.

I've had the amp for about a year and it's been an issue the entire time I've owned it. The only reason that it didn't go directly back to the store is that i expected it to be fixed with a firmware update. The features of the amp are great - figured with some decent suppprt it would be fixed. Since there hasn't been a firmware update for the GDec in almost 2 years and they're on clearance everywhere, it doesn't look like there will be any updates.

I've sent an email to Fender on this, posted on Fender forums and have yet to get any kind of response.

To G-Dec owners, is anyone else having this problem?

To any Fender moderators, what options do I have here? Is there someone at Fender that I can contact directly to get this resolved?

Hey Herz,

Can you send me a few of your presets that you notice the hiss on? We'll see if we can reproduce it here.

Loren,

The setting below is from a post that I put in the GDec forum back in July. There was another person who replicated it.

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=58620

"Start a new preset and select the Blackface Drive amp model. Turn the gain all the way up to 10. Turn the treble up to 10. Noise gate to super. Timbre to Full Stack. Strum each string very lightly - don't need to play hard - and listen for the "snare hiss". I hear thru the speaker and through headphones."

So it's not an issue that gets cleaned up with the noise gate. The noise gate gets rid of the normal background hum/static but does nothing to fix this issue. I can provide more settings in a few hours, if needed.

Loren,

My settings:

HSS strat with Texas Special pups. Playing in pickup position 4, so both single coil pups. Guitar volume at 6ish, tone at 4ish. GDec guitar tone at 10 and master volume at 5. Monster cable directly into GDec, no pedals or anything. Strum open strings fairly lightly one at a time and then a light strum - hear the hiss/fuzz/whatever.

All of the GDec settings below done thru the amp, not using Fuse. Not using any stompboxes, reverb, delay, mods.

Blackface Drive Amp, Gain 10, Amp Volume 6, Treble 9, Middle 7.5, Bass 5.0, Compressor Low, Timbre Full Body, Noise Gate High

Blackface Dst Amp, Gain 5, Amp Volume 8, Treble 9, Middle 7.5, Bass 5.0, Compressor Off, Timbre Full Stack, Noise Gate High

Tweed Dirt Amp, Gain 6, Amp Volume 5, Treble 8.5, Middle 6, Bass 6.0, Compressor Mid, Timbre Bright Light, Noise Gate Mid

Let me know what you think!

Sorry for the delay. We're actually testing it now. I'll have something to report shortly.

Loren,

Any updates? Were you able to replicate any of the issues that I described?

It really would be wonderful to get a response from Fender on this. It's clear cut on my amp using the specific settings from my earlier posting.

Seems likely that it's a "digital alias" modeling issue. There were a few digital alias issues addressed in the firmware update 1.04 from two years ago, seems possible that there could be more that haven't been addressed.

Last time that I bring this issue to Fender. Just to be sure I'm not nuts, I played the GDec 3 30 at a local Sam Ash. Dialed in one of the settings with the fizz that I listed above. A guy who who worked at the store heard the same thing that I did - fizz, alias, whatever. So it's not just my specific amp and I'm not the only one who hears it.

Hi there !

I think that i've the same issue.
When i strum too hard a chord on a clean tone ( like " Cool Clean", preset 27 on the metal serie ), i've got this horrible sound that came out from the amp.
So if anybody got an idea...

Yeah, don't know if it's the same thing or not cuz I don't have the metal version. After numerous attempts to get this addressed, I wouldn't expect Fender to say anything. The silence speaks volumes. My advice, try to pretend its not there. I'm moving forward with different gear.

Well if you really want to know.....

Going back to a floor multi effects processor (going with the Digitech RP 500 rather than the Line 6 stuff) and will run it through a newly purchased Tech 21 Power Engine. Owned an RP 355 prior to the G Dec and liked it - my issue was always finding something to run it into that wouldn't color the tone too much. I've read other postings on this forum where people run the Line Out of the G Dec into it with good results.

Also want something simple and analog based that I can plug into and play right away so I picked up a used Tech 21 TRI AC pedal. Some of Tech 21's character series seems pretty good on YouTube too. They can also be run through the Power Engine.
