'Use an old-ish Line 6 Vetta I almost all the time and love the modeling stuff. 4 1/2 years now.

But it's kind of overkill for casual practice. So is the G-Dec really, truly that hip as a'daily use amp?'

I've had my G-DEC 30 for two months now and am loving it more and more as each day passes. With 30 Watts I can't crank the volume past 2 & 1/2 without bothering my neighbors so it's deffinately powerful enough as a practice amp. But it's also portable and light enough to shlep it around town to play open mics and 0ne-man-shows in yoga studios and small halls like I do because of it's MIDI capabilities. It was a good purchase for me since I already had a MIDI interface, cables and programming experience from a project I did eight years ago. Without an interface you'll have to use the onboard LCD screen and a not so user friendly interface panel. You'll want to check out mygdec.com for tips, patches and songs. Software is an issue too. Though you can get a free copy of JAMMER Songmaker 5 and upgrade to JAMMER 6 Pro for $65.00, it's very limited in that you assign canned loops to your bar and instruct it to "Compose" for you. JAMMER 5 won't let you enter your own melody in the measure. I don't know about JAMMER 6 Pro. You'll want a real MIDI sequencer like Cakewalk or Sony ACID Pro which will, unfortunately cost as much, if not more, than the amp it's self.

G-DECs are very cool. My boy's guitar teacher uses one and I was so fascinated by it that I bought one for the boy. Since then, I bought myself a B-DEC. It gets a lot of use.

G-DEC 30 for guitar, B-DEC for bass.
I have one of each. If you're a bass player getting into guitar, it's possible to program some basic guitar tones into the B-DEC. I did that when I was going to a jam, wanting to bring both a guitar and bass, but didn't want to bring two amps. It worked great. 8)
On the other side, playing a bass through a G-DEC or any guitar amp could damage the amp. Don't do it!

I bought one for my brother in law, and he loves it. He's just started playing guitar last year, and I think it's a great tool for practicing. I probably would have bought one for myself except I've got a bunch of equipment that has all the features, but cost me a lot more to buy individually over the years.

In addition, I was pretty impressed with the sound quality, and balls this amp exhibits for being a budget/practice amp.

I think it's a good value.

I have the Jr.
I bought it as a practice amp.
It's easier to move around at home & practice wherever I feel like.
It doesn't have as many options as the regular G-Dec, but still has a lot.

It's fun, and I use it a lot.
It's not overkill, just a fun practice amp.
You also don't have to hook up as many effects, or siwtch between amps, etc.

It's great for coming up with song ideas & experimenting with different sounds.

And again--it's fun.
