Hello. I received a GDEC 15 amp as a gift and the selector knob has the random behavior I have read about, after doing some googling. I tried calling the Fender number listed on the website, and the rep transferred me to tech support, but they said it was closed (even though it should have been open according to the hours given on the outgoing voicemail message). I tried calling again today, and they are also closed.

The other thing that is weird - there is no serial number on the amp. The box is there, but it looks like the SN was never printed (or badged on).

I am not really sure what to do at this point. I was told this was purchased at a Guitar Center. I don't physically have the receipt but I should be able to get it. The store is not local.

Please help.

This was a common problem with GDEC 15's. They did come with a 5-year transferable warranty. If you can come up with the receipt (that is less than 5-years old), you can get it fixed (or replaced) under warranty.

Thanks. How do I go about doing that? Do I have to call them?

Will that voidthe warranty? I am willing to try it but not if I have a valid warranty that this procedure will void.

If you can show that the item is still in warranty (i.e. if you have a receipt dated less than 5 years ago), you can take it to any location that performs Fender warranty service.

I tried the fix. It worked for about 2 weeks and I am right back in the same situation. It was fun to use while it lasted.

If it's still under warranty, Fender just replaces them. That's what they did with mine. I moved up to a GDec 30, and I wished I move on to a Line 6 Spider jam. The first GDecs were pretty bad.

Turns out mine is not under warranty due to the fact that the serial number plate on it is completely blank. I am going to attempt to replace the selector switch itself. Hopefully that fixes it.

Rick, sorry to hear that. Will you be able to get the proper control?
The biggest mistake I made with mine was taking the store credit Fender gave me and getting a GDec 30. I should've used it towards a Line 6 Spider Jam. :? The 30 isn't much better and the effects IMO sound like they were developed for a nine year old.

This is the selector knob here:

I did a horrible job de-soldering the old one. I think I lifted every pad, but when I put it all back together it worked.

Hey Rick, I wonder if it's actually the knob itself or a deeper problem. Fender replaced my whole GDec over the same issue. If you look back through some forums, there were quite a few with the same problem. Seems weird to replace a whole amp over a nine dollar part. I hope it works out for you.

I know this is a older post, but I had the same issue and managed to clean the switch. I carefully bent back the metal prongs holding the green plastic in place. Then I lifted out the knob shaft and green plastic together, and cleaned the contacts on the inside of the switch housing and the tiny prongs on the part that turns, with a spray contact cleaner on a Q tip. I used "R-2 Deoxit" but any contact cleaner should do ok. Inside the rotary switch was a clear oily liquid. I also cleaned the 4 button pads for "amp" "fx" etc. Once it was all dry I put back together it worked better. It still skips a bit but now is usable at least.

I saw a similar post on the following page showing this link. Sorry for the duplication...

We could use a G-Dec service sticky note...
