hi guys i don't know too much about amps but i have an original (2007) g-dec and want to buy a vox lil night train head then hook up and use the g-dec speaker with the vox head, now the llil night train is rated at 2amp@16ohm and 1.5amp@8ohm my g-dec is rated 8ohm i'm not to sure what the ohm rating means but I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me if this will be a good idea or will i have to pick up a separate cab for the vox head, the vox is an all tube 2watt amp so it seems nice to have but i don't really want to buy a cab for it will my g-dec be ok with it, any opinion is appreciated

ok i just wanted to clarify what i had posted earlier, basically i want to just use my g-dec as a cabinet for the new head, i know it has aux in inputs on the back but they seem to go through the circuit board and since the new head is all tube i want the sound to not be colored in any way, so would i have to change the wiring to the speaker or can i in fact just plug into the aux input, sorry in advance since i am a newbie and not very good at technical stuff so again any help would be greatly appreciated

This is not a good idea. Hooking up an external amp to the GDEC's speaker could cause harm to both amps but, more than likely, it would fry a component in the GDEC making it worthless (or more expensive to fix than the amp may be worth).

There is a way to do it, but it would require that the GDEC's connections to it's speaker be broken by a switch, so that the amp is no longer connected to the speaker when the switch is in one position. Then you could safely connect the other amp to the speaker. You would also need to build in a safeguard to keep from ruining your amp(s) by having a brain fart, probably using a switching jack.

By just asking this question, I don't think you know enough at the moment to do the job without an expert to guide you. Your better of just getting an extra cab.

thanks so much for the advice this is why this forum is so great, the last thing i want to do is damage my g-dec, it's a great little amp, i don't know enough to try to make this all work but i know enough not to try, i will go ahead and order a separate cab for the new head and save myself from doing any damage, thanks again for the advice i really appreciate it

Nice 'lil amp for the house or for recording.

On many combos you can disconnect the amp section from the speaker. It's a matter of unplugging the amp output 1/4" jackplug from the speaker input socket.

Having just checked the G Dec's features on the site here, I see it doesn't have these components. And none of the connection sockets I can see give you seperate access to the speaker. The responding poster - p90sdude -has given you good advice which I see you have decided to take. Smart move.

It would all be a compromise anyway. Put a nice 1x10 or 1x12 on your xmas list!
