Just wondering. Don't suppose the cat can be let out of the bag, but I was just wondering if there were any information.

And whatever happened to G-DEC 2?

Yeah, my local sales rep told me weeks ago the rumor was G DEC 3 was going to be discontinued. Sweetwater and Musicians Friend list it as no longer available. Well, that lasted long, didn't it?

The question is - why? I've really enjoyed mine and have had no problems at all.

GDEC 2 must've have blown up and never saw the light of day.

That certainly would be unfortunate if it was discontinued. However I just checked MF, GC and Sweetwater, and they all have the GDEC listed and in stock. MF lists it as a 'best seller." Street price online is listed around $400 which is what it has been for a while.

Well this is what I'm finding - looks to be discontinued:

Whatever is the case, I really like mine. I only hope Fender continues to support it with benefits like FUSE, and firmware updates.

GDEC 3 is still alive and kicking....the links are to the previous model GDEC which was replaced by the GDEC 3. Kind of makes sense that it would be discontinued.

bmoyer, you have listed the original GDEC by mistake, the G-DEC 3 is still available.

I returned my G-DEC 3 Fifteen and just today got a G-DEC 3 Thirty. I took 2 online prices to GC for $299 and they gave it to me for $299-10% of the difference, so I ended up paying $289 for a GDEC 3 Thirty. I'm happy. My Fifteen was 10% off and cost me $270, still...

Strangely, they sold it to me as "still in the box" but it clearly had been sold and returned - two layers of tape holding the box closed, cords in disarray, and most telling - the band tracks were all messed up and missing and it had firmware version 1.04 already installed. Luckily, I intended to load the Blues Edition anyway and it seems to work just fine. I like having the bigger speaker, more power, and a tweeter. I just hope it got returned by someone who got to zealous with the software and my reloading of 1.04 and the Blues edition fixed it up.

Time will tell if I ever will need the cab outputs, but right now I don't.

I'm happy to be wrong. But I will still stand by Chuck Levin's Washington Music that it may be on the chopping block. "You may be glad you got it while you could" was the word. Still love my G DEC 3.

I can't imagine that the Gdec3 are anywhere near being phased out. Hal Leonard published those great books with the backing tracks and they have hardly even been marketed yet.

I am still waiting to see how the Gdec and the books are going to be marketed. I figured by now that there would be magazine ads, displays in stores, and a huge online campaign.

Sounds more "to me" like high pressure salesmanship, "better buy it now before they are gone"...

You're right about the books, but they could still issue an upgraded model that kept the SD slot and, say, added a pause button for band tracks, or equalizer, etc.

I have 2 of the books, Jimi Hendrix, and SRV. It just shows me how much farther I have to go! Geez. Even if these things are simplified, the songs take practice. But that's a good thing. I'm glad its not an "easy play" songbook.

I was just curious because I just bought my GDEC. I hate it when the new model comes out as soon as you can't return the one you just bought.

Just a theory...

The Mustang Series has been pretty darned popular. If Gdec hasn't been doing so great, I wonder if there will be a Mustang Amp with Gdec technology. SD card reader and backing tracks inside of the Mustang? Just a thought.

I already had the G DEC 3 Thirty when this was said to me. But I've spoken out of line in this thread, or at least not accurately. Here was the rep response when I asked again:

"Fender has dropped the pricing that dealers are allowed to advertise them for, which is usually a sign that it is about to be updated/modified/or discontinued."

I'll leave it at that and enjoy my G DEC 3 :)

Pastormike, I have thought the same thing... if Fender wanted to consolidate their product lines, the Mustang I and II could take over GDEC duties. You can bet they've discussed it. The Mustang has evolved also and the MIII implementation of the LCD screen in conjunction with control knobs is pretty nifty. I demoed the III but for my taste had WAY too much power for my practice and jamming needs...though I might have purchased a Mustang II for the 12' speaker if it had the III's controls and LED screen. Already has Fuse connectivity. Add in the SD slot and backing track/preset pairing capability and Mustang I/II becomes a GDEC. Not trying to make a case for the demise of the GDEC - I love it - but marketing-wise, "amped up and loud" just seems kind of silly when referring to 20 and 40 watt amps anyway.

Any body from Fender wish to chime in on this? Is Fender planning to phase out or discontinue the GDEC 3?
