How many steps are there to change a 'black' version to one of the special edition versions? ABOUT 12!!!!!!!

this is ludicrous!

Fender: the amp is connected to the users computer with a USB cord.
The amp either has a hard drive or some flash memory.
errrr. why can't we just download the relevant wav. / MIDI files to the amp and overwrite it's original content from FUSE using USB?????

All the G Dec 3 versions have back up content available on line, or the user could simply save the factory content and desired special edition content onto his/her computer or anywhere else they desired.

Or perhaps you could sell a sd card with the desired special edition content/s on it and folks could use the sd slot as memory expansion.
It could be as simple as putting a card in and being asked, would you like to load the county content? then press yes or exit to cancel.

I was swapping MIDI / wav. content onto keyboards back in the 90's with more ease than you have made for this amp.

I'm sure the techs will chime in here but its so easy for me to change my amp from black to blue :) that I carry SD cards with the 2 sets of files. I switch between Original and Blues all the time.

Here's how it works for me: insert card, turn amp on, amp recognizes file, I press start, reformats HD with new band tracks.

Turn amp off and on, press exit once, then start, (just following directions on the screen), and bingo, presets loaded and I have a new amp.

What steps are you taking?

Hey Teleman_24,

The process is as streamlined as it could be and the instructions are as simple as we could possibly make them. If you'd like some assistance with converting your amp, you can always contact us directly and we'll be happy to walk you through, step by step.

If this is as simple as Fender could make it then I suggest you employ better software designers. It COULD BE MUCH SIMPLER.

I can figure it out for myself, I've been using computers with music hardware for years, I'm just amazed at Fenders lack of ability to make an app that works seamlessly with a product. I can't see a company like say Roland sending such a junk app out with their devices.

Dude you have some serious issues. Be happy Fender even offers the other software versions for free. How hard is it to download a Zip file, unzip it then put 3 files on an SD card to reformat your G-Dec to a Limited version. If you find that hard I doubt you have much in the way of computer skills. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but why complain about fender giving you freebies and a way to getting a limited version for nothing.

I agree totally that this thing is WAY to complicated. It's irritating and frustrating and I really regret even buying it. Everybody just assumes that the whole world is computer literate and that it's all "simple". I don't even have internet access where I live (I'm at a friends now). I don't know what a zip file is or how to unzip it! The 'root' of an SD card? No clue! The so-called 'instructions' on this site are so deliberately obtuse, that they might as well be written in Sanskrit. Nothing is 'simple' when you don't know the language. I got my pilots license when I was in high school, but I wouldn't put somebody in a Cessna and smugly tell them that flying is 'simple'! The original G-Dec was much better. The 'improved' G-Dec 3 is so much worse it doesn't even seem like it's from the same family tree.

The original G-DEC is locked to the tracks it came with. The new G-Dec is open for those that want to, and have the knowhow to change the tracks and pre-sets. The new G-DEC is designed for the more tech-savvy to explore and expand. The addition of FUSE is a godsend and makes re-configuring your tone extremely easy.
I will concede to you that if you are not tech-savvy all this would be Greek to you and the amp may seem overly complicated. I also concede a set of instructions for (no offense intended) computer illiterate folks would be nice.

So in closing I will apologise for my original post being so harsh and request that Fender put out a set of instructions for the computer challenged among you.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Keep in mind though that the ability to convert your amp to another genre wasn't part of the original plan. We were going to keep the Special Edition content restricted to the Special Edition amps. In the end, we figured that giving existing users more options and content can't be a bad thing. Had we decided otherwise, I"m sure there would be many more angry users than we have for this issue.

Could the process be easier? Sure. However, converting an original G-DEC to a Special Edition model is pretty much the same as wiping your hard drive and installing a new OS onto your computer and, as many of us know, there isn't really a two step process available to do that.

I'd appreciate some advice on this topic.

I tried to install the Blues Special Edition, but failed. Having carefully followed the instructions, the install appeared to fail at the point where it should take approximately 10 minutes to download the tracks from the card - it did it (or failed to do it!) in a few seconds. My amp now tells me I have the Blues Edition installed, but the tracks are still the original ones. Any help would be appreciated.

Got it to work on the fourth attempt. I was obviously doing something wrong, but I don't know what it was!

Hey IanMac,

I apologize for the late response. We've heard from a couple of users who had to repeat the process a few times. Either way. I'm glad you got it sorted.
