Has anyone changed out the speaker in the GDec 3 30? What did you use?

I have seen enough of these threads now about changing the speaker in the G-dec amps that I am curious. Aren't you guys worried about how it may affect the modeling of the amp?

I would imagine the speaker is an integral part of the modeling and changing it could have unexpected results.

thanks for somewhat of a responce? on replacing a G-DEC 3 30 speaker. But my question was ,has anybody swapped out the speaker and if so ,what was it replaced with? The last responce asked the question of being concerned if switching would change any peramiters ,if it was replaced. I am trying to find out if replacing the stock speaker would make the amp sound better ,etc?

Thanks for responding David. Those are the same questions that I have.

I’ve read a few posts where people say that removing the back seems to help with the sound. That’s the kind of info that I’m looking for.

As far as hurting performance, I’m not very concerned about that – not that I’m an expert in speakers at all. I look at the difference in the speakers between the different Mustang amps as an example. The Mustang II has a 1 x 12 Fender special while the Mustang III has a 1 x 12 Celestion. As the Mustang III is just a bigger, louder version of the Mustang II with some added features and modeling, I don’t think there would be any issues with upgrading the speaker in the GDec. But I’m wondering if anyone who reads these forums has actually done it and if it made a noticeable difference.

Thank you herz, maybe someone from FENDER could respond? If there is another same size speaker that will make the 3 30 sound better with more bottom end and more dynamic responce --- this is what I am attempting to discover. For example several months ago one of the FENDER guys suggested replacing the stock speaker in the Super champ XD with a ragin cagin speaker. I did it and it was a great sounding improvement over the stock speaker??????

Hi I tried on mine but even though there was a slight increase in the bass and being more solid the efficiency of the replacement speaker was not as good. I put everything back to stock. Hook it up to a PA or powered speaker and THEN you will really hear the true potential of this great unit. The stock drivers are really not to bad.

The gdec has two speakers...one is a tweeter. They are balanced. It is made to play music tracks too.
