I'm noticing a hissing sound when playing with the GDec 3 30. Before getting the GDec I tried a Vox Valvetronix and noticed a similar thing there. (After noticing it on my amp at home I tried it at a Guitar Center with a different amp and guitar and found the same thing so it isn't my equipment).

Here is a link to a Vox discussion board that describes the "snare hiss":

This is not "normal" background hiss or noise in my opinion. I know what that is and this is something different. I hear it on many of the different models on the GDec, but here is one example.

Start a new preset and select the Blackface Drive amp model. Turn the gain all the way up to 10. Turn the treble up to 10. Noise gate to super. Timbre to Full Stack. Strum each string very lightly - don't need to play hard - and listen for the "snare hiss". I hear thru the speaker and when through headphones.

Does anyone else notice this? It is noticeably less when I turn the treble down - but that isn't a solution. Anyone know how to get rid of it, or is it a defect?

Just noticed a hiss on decaying notes a few days ago, then saw your post. The hiss swells as the note decays and reminds one of the ocean but not in a good way. Noticeable on high gain settings on high gain amps, especially Tweed Dirt. I can reduce it somewhat by increasing the noise gate to 'super' but that also kils the tone. Haven't noticed it on the cleaner amps/settings, thankfully. I was able to replicate the hiss with the amp and settings you described. If I decrease the noise gate to "mid," it is even more noticeable.

I am surprised there haven't been more responses... In my case, I didn't immediately notice the decay hiss because the high gain models all have a lot of background noise anyway, which kind of masks it.

There seems to be a bit of an uproar in the Mustang forum about the same issue with those amps.

I tried reflashing the 1.04 firmware update which had zero effect. On my amp the hiss does seem to be sensitive to the noise gate threshold.

Not sure if this is the kind of thing that can be addressed with a firmware update... perhaps Fender will offer an opinion.

Thanks for posting donno. I wish I were the only one experiencing this - but hopefully a 2nd posting will lead Fender to take a closer look at this issue.

Yeah, agreed on the cleaner amp models sounding better. Don't notice it at all on Blackface clean and the acoustic models.

I hadn't heard about the Mustang. As I mentioned in my first posting I had a similar issue with the Vox Valvetronix. Maybe these solid state modeling amps just can't get the job done.

I just bought this and I was pissed off when I noticed the decay hiss. I almost returned it to GC (God bless America) and then started messing with the noisy amp models. By adjusting the gain, amp model volume, and treble I was able to get the hiss to the point where it wasn't noticeable.

So yeah, I agree, digital modeling is still a bit of a compromise. On balance though I am having a blast with this thing and am able to get some great tweed and blackface tones. Much better then the Roland Cube 30 I had. If the noise doesn't get any worse I'll probably stick.

To Fender's credit, I think they are doing a good job of supporting their customers. Hopefully Fender will address the amp noise issue in a future firmware update.
