After a few days of testing a G-DEC 3 updated to the latest firmware I have discovered that the amp will freeze with 'some' midi files. All the files I have tried will play fine in Windows Media Player and most will play okay in G-DEC 3 but others will cause a lockup requiring the amp to be re-booted. Yep, I could export the troublesome midi's as .mp3's or .wav files but that's a little involved. I would like the G-DEC to be able to play 'all' midi files.
This issue dosen't seem to be type 0 or type 1 related but rather something else in the midi coding the G-DEC dosen't like. I have searched the net for a midi file 'cleaning' tool without any luck. I do know that Acid Music Stidio (my prefered music sequencer) only creates G-DEC 3 regectables (but play okay in WMP).
I haven't found any threads in this forum about G-DEC 3 and midi issues so just thought I'd ask if anyone else has found similar issues or perhaps a work-around... thanks

"Feedback on my post;I am the originator of this thread. I sent a batch of files to fender. They converted the files that happened to be type 1 to type 0 and the files loaded and played. Some of my files played and some locked up the amp. The ones that played were type 0."

"I opened up Jammer (free program used with the old G Dec 30) and converted all of the midi's to type zero. I now have the files that I originally had as songs in the G Dec 30 (songs had to be in midi format for the 30) on an SD and they play with out a problem in the G Dec 3. It is nice to have the songs I have been playing all of these years on the 3."

"Type 1 locked up my amp and I had to restart it to get it to work. According to Fender the software is supposed to work with type 1 also. It has been given to engineering to work on. According to Fender Customer Support the type 1's also locked up their amp."

"Moral to story: Convert all midi files to Type 0 !!! "

Hi, I also had this problem in the past so I'm now using only mp3 and/or wav files on a SD card because I by far prefer real instruments to midi .
suggestion: Google this: g-dec 3 midi files problem.

Thanks RunDuke.. I thought a Fender rep may have chipped in? I did find those quotes but didn't find the answer as to why some midi's will cause the G-DEC 3 to lock up. Sure, I could create mp3's from the bad midi files but one really expects a product to 'work' as claimed.
I did try saving the files as type 0 and still no luck. I also played with the midi resolution setting (ppq) and haven't found a resolution that allows the files to play without locking up the G-DEC.

Obviously the techsperts know about the 3's midi issues, let's hear from you !!
