Hi all

I bought my brand new G-DEC 30 by last xmas, and until couple of month so far so good. but lately it hangs and stops working, the screen freezes and all the controls too. I have to cycle power and it happens that the longer it has been hung, the longer it needs to be powered off to start working again. It's very annoying, there is no specific pattern: it can spend 1 hour working as soon it starts hanging up after 3-4 minutes on.
I managed it to the customer service in Spain-Canay Islands, but they tested with no problem (or at least is waht I've been told). I already updated the firmware, and even tried metal, blues, country version with no improvement.
Has anyone experienced these problems? How can I get my amp checked by Fender?
thanks and regards

Hi

finally I decided to have the amp checked and repaired by myself. The customer service from where I purchased told me that Fender normally takes around 6 months to send a spare part, and taking into account that no moderator from Fender could even give me an answer...

the problem is located in a very very VERY BAD thermal design inside the amp. The mains after the tranformator send +9v and +-24V to a board where the 9V are stabilized to +5V via a 5 volt regulator and then this 5v goes to a 3.3v regulator. The +-24volts go to a +12v regulator and -12v regulator in order to supply +-12v symetric volts to attack the power amp. The 3.3v regulator (which I think part of the logic use, such as memories) is thermally protected, so far so good, but the comsuption from either the 5v regulator and the 3.3v regulator are quite high but inside the limits and should work fine BUT ONLY IF APPROPIATE DISIPATORS ARE USED, AND CLEARANCE BETWEEN DISIPATORS IS KEPT IN ORDER TO ALLOW SOME VENTILATION, otherwise the 3.3v will go down and get the whole thing stuck. I got all the pcb boards out and noticed that the 2 tiny-dispators were much much warmer than they should be, and they both were touching each other. I let all the stuff connected and running out of the case, and this simple ventilation let the system work fine during 24 hours test. This is the reason why the longer the amp was connected after a lock up, the longer it needed to be powered off, just to allow the 3.3v to COOL ENOUGH, and that is the reason the SD card slot and nearby was always too hot for my consideration, all the warm was accumulating in a point without ventilation. My solution was as simple as putting a 12v fan powered with and adaptor from mains to avoid noise interference and directing the fan to the trouble area.

I started with all these issues a couple of months ago, so be warned, if around the SD card slot area gets quite warm, be prepared to either change the disipators or to attach a small computer fan, as long as Fender can not do a proper thermal design, neither give a response to this problem

regards
