I am a bit frustrated trying to update my G-Dec3-Thirty amp to the latest upgrade. There are two methods given, I have tried both, with no success via either one. My amp still displays "V 1.02" when I turn it on and not the new V 1.04 I'm trying to upgrade it to.

First, when I tried initially to upgrade via my Fuse software, I followed all the instructions to the letter, but when it opened My Documents, to allow me to browse for the .upd file I went directly to the Downloads folder where I unzipped it, but Windows for some reason refused to show the contents of that folder. Blank page. No luck. Gave up and went to plan 'B.'

Plan 'B' is to copy the .upd file to an SD card, which I did. Made sure it was copied to the root and not to one of the sub-folders. So far, so good. Stuck the card in my amp, turned it on and . . . . nothing. No on-screen instructions came up. I switched the amp off, waited a second or two and switched it back on again. Same ol' same ol.' Nothing again. Amp still displays the original firmware version.

In the process, I did notice that my Mem Lock is turned on. Do I need to turn that off before it will upgrade. That's all I can think of. Anyone's help will be appreciated.

Hey Stratfreak51,

Does the G-DEC recognize your SD card at all normally? It seems to me that if you're having an issue with the G-DEC not reading the firmware file on the card, then it would also not see any Presets or Band Tracks on the card. I could be wrong though.

As far as your computer not seeing the firmware file, I'm not sure what could cause that.

The amp seems to recognize the card. Before I attempted the upgrade I inserted a blank card into my amp, then turned it on. Some kind of message flashed on the screen, so fast that I couldn't read it, and then the amp settled into its normal screen, at the "00" preset. I ejected the card and popped it into my card reader and verified that the amp had created all four of the sub-folders, as it is supposed to do. I also verified that the .upd update file had been copied to the card's root before I put it in the amp. So, judging from that, it appears to be "seeing" the SD card when it's inserted into the slot. Seems to me that for some reason it's not "seeing" the .upd file, or, possibly, that there's something missing.

In the instructions I noticed that after the emboldened step that instructs users to copy the file to the root of the card, the NEXT step after that says to "Copy the file." That was sort of confusing. Is that .upd file the ONLY file that's supposed to be on the card, or did I miss something in the instructions???

Try downloading this firmware file and using it instead:

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... load-v1-04

Please make sure to unzip the zip file. The actual .upd file is inside.

Thanks for all your help, Loren. I finally got it updated. Turns out that for some unknown reason the thing failed to unzip properly. I went back and deleted the entire folder, from my computer and from my SD card. Using the link you sent me, I downloaded it again and it worked properly this time when I unzipped it. I was able to quickly upgrade it from my Fuse software this time around.
