Got my G Dec 3 Blues edition yesterday. Great amp, great practice tool, and I'm looking forward to growing with this thing. I've needed something like this to inspire me to practice for a while.

One small problem which I think I addressed: The second backing track cut off after about 12 bars. I immediately assumed there was some software problem and even thought I might have to send this thing back. But looking at the DVD, I figured out that I could I get into the band file menu and set the "repeat" sub-menu to "on," so the backing track would endlessly loop. Of course, to do that, I had to unlock the memory lock, which took me another few moments to figure out.

Question: Should I return the memory lock to locked, now that I saved the change I mentioned above? Right now, I've left the lock off. Any problem with that?

Thanks. Great site and great amp.

Tom

Unless you think you'll accidentally overwrite a preset or backing track, it's okay to leave the memory lock off. I do.

I'll leave it off, then. I may be making more changes as I go along, even though I'm still getting familiar with the presets.

The lock feature is really for when the amp is in a store to prevent changes to the factory settings and getting it out of wack. I don't see any reason to have it in locked position except possibly if you lend it to someone and don't want changes to be saved.

If you have a guitar amp with an effect loop you can take the line out and plug into the return. That bi-passes the other amp's pre-amp, so it does't color the sound. I run mine thru a Blues Cube 60 and I like the way it sounds. More low end from the 12" speaker and more power.

Tom: I just got my G DEC blues amp today as well. I noticed the same thing, track #2 stopped. I happen to want to use that loop so it was frustrating & like you, I thought maybe there was something wrong with the track. Thanks for telling me how you got it to repeat which fixed mine as well.

zland, it wasn't hard. Just start with "band" menu at the track, go to "file," I believe, then "repeat." Turn repeat "on." (I don't have the amp in front of me at the moment, so I think that's how it's done. I'm certain about the first and last steps; not so certain about the middle step.) Then hit "save" twice.

I think the DVD laid it out very clearly in the presets section. Check it out.

I'm leaving this thing unlocked. Shaping presets is part of the fun here.

I have a Princeton Recording Amp (not the Princeton reissue) with an effects loop. I may try that some day, but I'm a big believer in getting to know what an amp or a guitar can do before you try any "upgrades" or tricks like that. Anyway, I'm not gigging, so the stock speaker sounds just fine. 8)

What a great idea for an amp.

Also, zland: To unlock the memory lock, go to the utility menu/section.

This is actually the message I meant to quote, when I referred to the Princeton Recording Amp.

Back to report that I'm still digging this thing. In the early 90s, I used to "jam" by playing to, or over, Buddy Guy and Miles Davis CDs. It's not like having a band in a basement waiting for you, but the G Dec is way more fun that playing "with" CDs.

Nice work, Fender.

Ink,
I am with you! I got mine about 2 weeks ago and man I can't stop playing it! I love this amp! It is to the point that when I can't sleep at night I go into my studio, plug in the headphones and play away without bothering my wife and I am able to really get some amazing practice done! I have noticed a huge improvement in my playing! I think Fender had a true stroke of genius with this amp!
ABS :D

Fun, ain't it? I wouldn't mind some simplification of the controls and maybe a 65-watt version. I could nitpick here and there; being able to start the amp at the last band track/preset I used would be nice. But I agree, it's a neat practice tool.

Hey Guys: I have the G Dec but not the blues one. It wasn't avaialable at the store I dealt with so would like to change say 50 of the tracks to some of the Blues tracks. Is that easy to do and will it work? Surely I do not have to trade this amp in which is only 5 months old, on the blues amp.

thanks

Just found my answer on the forum else where. Great, as I am going to try and change mine over to the Blues.
