Has any one successfully turned their regular G-dec 3 into one of the special models like blues, country or metal?

I have been trying to get the software loaded but it will not work. I have used different SD cards to upload the different software. Maybe I have a bad unit? :?

Thanks
Jeff

Those who've succeeded mentioned that they had to do the firmware upgrade to 1.04 first.

Hi, can't understand why you are having any trouble at all with the process. I have converted my g-dec 3/30 from the standard model to the "country" version & then the "blues" version without any problem whatsoever. Just followed the instructions provided by fender on this site each time.
Quite enjoyed checking out the "country" edition but really find the "blues" version more to my liking, so will probably leave my amp that way for a while.
Just follow the instructions step by step & you should be successful - I doubt there is anything wrong with your amp.

Actually just noticed also that one of the 3 files that need to be on your SD card when undertaking the process is the Firmware Update file, so you don't need to do this first - the instructions from Fender will guide you through this. SD card type shouldn't really matter that much - mine is a 1GB Sandisk. Make sure there is nothing else on the card also - probably a good idea to format the card before starting process.

I have followed Fender’s instructions and it still does not load properly. I have used two different SD cards and neither loads the conversion correctly. I will get a SanDisk SD and see it is the SD cards I am using. The crazy part it will load and say it is the blues version but none of the preset/back tracks change. It’s crazy!

I have also updated the firmware then tried installing and it still did not work.

Thanks
jeff

One other thought...probably already been checked...is your amp locked in the Utility Menu to prevent writing to the internal drive? Sorry if you've already checked this.

Thanks for the advice, but I found that on the forums and unlocked it. I have tried everything I can find on the forum but still no luck. I am going to get another SD card and see if that will make a difference. The ones I am using are old and maybe the updates just do not work with them.
Thanks
Jeff

Hi jeffdemann,

Sorry to hear that you are having troubles getting your amp updated to a new Special Edition content set. And thanks to "bclarke675" for his thoughts. But Mem Lock is not a concern, as the Restore function will overwrite either way. The main things you will want to be sure to do is as follows.

1. Format SD card to FAT32. Try formatting the card in your Fender G-DEC 3 (w/ any version of the v1.04 firmware running).
2. Copy the .img, .bin and the v1.04 firmware(Special Edition) to the root level (not in any folder) of the SD card.
3. Start the amp with the SD card inserted and press Start/Stop when "Image Found" appears on the screen. Allow the Restore process to run.
4. Once Restore is complete, restart the amp with the SD card in. and press Exit to skip the "Image Found" portion. Press Start/Stop when "Update Found" appears on screen. Once complete, the amp will say press Start/Stop to delete. Do this. And the amp will delete the firmware file and complete start up with the content/firmware you have just loaded. You will need to delete the .img & .bin files from the card manually.

If you are still experiencing problems with this process, please contact us directly and we can walk you through the process.

Best Regards,

I have done all that. The problem is when it is loading it goes directly to “UPDATE FOUND: Press Start to Load or Press EXIT to skip”. It never says "Image found"

Thanks
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

OK. It may be best if you could call us at the number below and ask for the TSL, or send along a phone number and we can call you back. This way we can go through some additional troubleshooting steps. Thanks.

Best Regards,

Hi jeffdemann,

I am glad to hear that you are up and running now. Can you please email us with the specific brand/type and size/speed rating of your previous card(s) that did not work? Also, can you let us know exactly how you formatted (what format and where you formatted, amp or computer, etc.)?

And please let us know if we can assist further. Thanks very much.

Best Regards,

I just bought my G-DEC30 & converted to Blues by following instructions from this website with no problem. Now I'm configuring the 4-button foot switch.

I'd be interested to know what SD card was used successfully by jeffdemann -- I'm having the same experience he had. I'm using a Sandisk 8GB SDHC card, which was formatted by the G-DEC 3 and I've used it to successfully update the firmware.

I've got the 15 not the 30 although from everything I've read in the last few hours that shouldn't matter -- admittedly there's still a lot I HAVEN'T read.

I could go to Best Buy and take a shot in the dark -- I can't really afford one of every flavor and brand of SD card they have, though.

Thanks for any help -- emailing TSL@Fender.com about this as well.

EDIT: formatted the SD card in the G-DEC again, put the relevant files on it again - EU-effing-REKA... seems to have done it, for whatever reason...

Hello SJC,

I was able to get it to change by using a Sandisk 2GB SDHC card. Hope this helps.

Jeff
