Well, to start, I am pretty happy with my G-DEC...what a cool little amp. I love tube amps, cranked, but I am not in a situation to do that often. Now I can get a great sound through headphones. I took the back off mine and it sounds a bit better through the speaker. I am now thinking I will build a new cab for the amp (solid pine, box jointed corners) and was wondering if anyone had any good experiences with any different speakers with this amp? I was thinking a 25W greenback, but they are pricey. Looked at a 15" 50W jenson too, still a bit high. I would like to go at least 10", would prefer a 12", and I like 15" speakers too (used to play my Peavey Classic 30 through a 15" ext. cab and wow....but it was way too loud for my situation, so it got sold).

So, anyway, what is your thoughts on aternate speakers for the G-DEC? BTW, it will be used as a guitar amp when going through the speaker, so getting all the sound for band tracks, etc. is not a priority, it has to be a good sounding GUITAR speaker.

Thanks
Jim

I think the stock speakers work well. I'm sure Fener went through a lot of R&D to develop the amp with the best value and sound they coud create.

Maybe not the answer that you were looking for, but try to pick up a G-DEC30, the older version G-DEC, as some dealers may still have them. Unlike the newer 3 Thirties, the G-DEC30 has a spot for an extension speaker cable. I use an ABY box with mine and can go to either a single 12" speaker cabinet or to a 2-12" cab just by hitting the foot switch. You could even use a 4x10 or a 4x12, as long as they are 8 ohm. It's a shame that this feature was eliminated with the new version.

I used to plug the G-DEC 3/30 in a DIY KUSTOM TUBE 12A with a 12" Eminence THe Tonker . The sound is more clear with more details. This speaker had a hight sensibility, so I have the same level with this 12w amp. So, for playing live, it's like I have 2X30w...
(excuse my english, I'm french)

I would love to hear more about this subject. I have the 3 fifteen and I'm really not to impressed with the speaker. It doesn't seem to handle bass very well, especially since I am now playing a guitar with active pups.

I have run the guitar line out from the gdec 3/30 to the power amp in on my hot rod deluxe. It sounds very clean and its plenty loud. You still get the sound from the gdec as well so it doubles the mono sound.

I have a fender keyboard amp as well and it has an input channel with a volume knob and it really cranks the volume up sounds like a totally different amp.

I wouldnt suggest running from line out to the regular input. It gets really noisey as amps are not designed to do that.

It works really well running it to the input of your effects loop on your amp. Once again you ignore the output of your amp and go into the return only. I cant specify enough how important that is. I have found that its actually quieter running the gdec into my effects loop than running alot of the stompboxes I have.

You're on it Tagg31. The effects return is the way to go, otherwise you are going thru the preamp of the other amp and coloring the sound. You don't want that. The effects loop takes you straight to the power amp for the cleanest sound and closest to what the gdec is producing.

GREAT!!! I just got back from a gig with my standard stomp boxes and tube amp and decided I might want to try and the GDEC 3 again. I used the tip above (routing into my efx input) on my Kustom Coupe 36 and BAM MAGICAL! I have to admit the GDEC 3 makes some tones I can't get out of my pedal board so this is pretty exciting. Next I'm going to try and run my pedal board with my GDEC 3 going into the Kustom and see what I get. I think I'll use this setup at our next SC gig. Thanks!

I used it at a gig this week. I had the gdec at 7 and the line level at about 5. It was really really loud. I was blasting over top everybody when I needed to solo. I set up 3 presets qa1 as clean qa2 as crunchy and qa3 as overdriven solo.

I could have went way louder if needed to. I need a good direct box id be curious to see how good it sounds going through the pa as well. With the left and right out I could have it going to the return on my hot rod deluxe and the other output going to the house.
