I'd love for someone from Fender or anyone who researched this, to voice the inspirations behind the performance presets. THANKS !

Interesting question...

When we developed the first G-DEC, we tried to keep it simple and fun, first of all.

Secondly, we created patterns that cover the most commonly played electric guitar styles. Sure, some people play ONLY blues, or ONLY metal, etc...but most of us have fun messing with various styles, and developing a few techniques along the way. We created Performance Presets that have appropriate tones and effects for the given pattern, but of course you can set the parameters any way you want and store your own presets. We leaned towards "multi purpose" patterns, i.e. it's amazing how classic British Rock becomes Punk if you speed it up enough, haha. A factory-stock Metal preset in E can become something completely different if you slow it down, change the key to G, and set your Amp Type to something cleaner.

Thirdly, we made sure that we had help from drummers and bass players when developing the various backing styles, to make them more authentic.

We learned a lot when doing the original G-DEC; and if you look at the G-DEC 30, you'll see that it has a greater number of patterns, as well as a wider diversity of old and new music styles. For the average guitar player who wants to take a stab at Rockabilly one day, and something in a Latin vein the next, you sure could do worse than to sit down with a G-DEC, plug your gtr in, turn it on, and spin the dial.

I could go on for days, but I hope this helps a bit. Enjoy your G-DEC!

Thanks,
Shane
