Being a relatively naive guitar player, I have a basic question. How adaptable is the G-DEC in terms of using as an acoustic amp? What are the basic differences between an electric guitar amp and an acoustic guitar amp? How interchangeable are they?

Hi, I have both: G-Dec3 and Traynor AM150T acoustic amp.
When I'm playing with a Takamine 2006 Ltd edition with the G-Dec3 (acoustic dred-acoustic jumbo) the sound is ok but there is a lack in bass frequencies. If I use the Tweed clean or the blackface cln presets I get a more electric sound that is ok but misses high frequencies...I mean the kind of "sparkle" you get with an acoustic guitar.
All of these sounds are usable according to taste. I even plays my acoustic using a little Roland Micro Cube set at low volume for its superb chorus effect.
Acoustic amps built by Traynor, Fender etc...are designed specifically for what they have to do: reproduce a natural acoustic tone using piezo or mic pickups...and they (most of the time) have some controls to eliminate or reduce feedback noise.
Imho, you can get a real good acoustic sound using these that you'll never get with an amp designed for electric guitars. Here's a link for more information: Especially the Acoustic guitar amplifiers section.
