As much as I like my G-DEC, I would love to put a 12" speaker in for a little more low end oomph.

I know I would have to remove the baffle board to enlarge the hole, but will a 12" speaker fit and what ohm speaker do I need?

I can sympathize with you, and while not answering your question, it gives me a chance to rant about the lack of an extension speaker output on the G-DEC 3 Thirty amps. My older G-DEC30 has an extension speaker output which I run to an ABY switch that allows me to choose between a cabinet with a single 12" speaker or a cab with two 12" speakers at the press of a foot switch. This setup gives me a variety of sound options. It's a shame that Fender did not include an extension speaker output on the newer amps. One solution for you would be to try to find the older model, G-DEC30. as some dealers may still have them in stock.

Changing the speaker will void the warranty. I get a better much more low end and sound quality by using the amp line out through a Traynor am150W line in and so this way I can still use the amp speaker. You could also use a good home system.

A 12" speaker is too big, and do not enter into the G-dec cab.

What I'm doing : I plug one line out into another amp, to have more power, and a better sound...
(I found a Dean Markley 80W amp on ebay for 56€ (70 $)...

The easiest way to get more bottom end is to send the line out to a powered speaker, guitar amp through the effects return (that way it's not being colored by the guitar pre-amp, only the power amp) or pa. You can even turn the vol off on the Gdec and just hear your aux amp if that's what you want.

I've found that if you remove the back panel that both the low and high end sound quality improves. Bass is tighter, highs are cleaner.

Is the woofer in the G-DEC3-30 a guitar, bass or PA speaker?Being that there is a tweeter lends me to believe that it is not mearly a standard guitar speaker.

The speaker in the G-DEC3-Thirty appears to be a guitar speaker. Instead of the tweeter with a 10" speaker, I wish Fender would have made this amp model with a 12" speaker along with an extension speaker output.

Does that mean that I could safely run the G-DEC 30s line out to the effects loop of my solid state Marshall half stack? I hope that is what you are saying and I am not confused again :D I would really like to hear it through the four speakers in the Marshall Cab    .....

Exactly. Run a cable from the line out to the effects return on the Marshal. In this mode you are bi-passing the preamp of the Marshal and going straight thru the power amp, so all the tone is from the Gdec. You can turn down the vol on the Gdec and just hear it thu the Marshal speakers only if you want.

JoeR:

Thanks for the great information. I won't get to try it until Monday though because my wife HATES it when I crank it up to the stratosphere. Personally, I like to shake the windows......

WOW! It sounded fantastic BUT I think that I learned a serious lesson today. I should always check the volume level first. That first strum about took my head off. Heck, with the volume at 12 o'clock and the master at 10 o'clock it was very powerful even when I stood outside the room and played. Now I am looking forward to how the SS Marshall will sound with the Boss FDR-1 pedal I ordered Saturday! Thanks again for your help.

Hey. I run my G-Dec 3 Thirty in to a Tech 21 Power Engine 60 with great results. I leave my G-Dec facing me and use it as a stage monitor and if needed mic the Tech 21 PE60 behind me. It sounds great.
