I seldom turn my G-DEC 3 THIRTY over 3 on the volume control and I use clean settings with a little slapback echo and a touch of reverb. The guitar I use mostly with it is a 2008 Gretsch 6120DSV with Dyna'Sonic single coil pickups.

When I set the bass tone control on the amp, I usually use the clean blackface setting, up past 8 and hit a Bb or lower note on the 6th string (.046) it sounds like the speaker is blown and and the sound flutters badly and loudly.

I'm 64 years old and don't play out and I've had the amp about 9 months and I noticed this problem early on but it was minor and now it is getting much worse.

Has anybody else had this problem and if you got it fixed, how was it rectified?

Hi, I also use mine with the volume at 2 or 3. After reading your post I tested mine and with the volume at 8 and up to 10 ("clean blackface settings with a little slapback echo and a touch of reverb" (oh my poor ears!) I had the same problem. But if I set the volume between 1 and 5 and the bass tone control at 10 ...no problem.
So my conclusion is that it might be signal-speaker related and if you have the same problem at low volume you should: check with the same settings on another G-Dec 3 at your store if possible, check if there are no loose components inside the amp, or use the line out jacks on the G-Dec3 with another guitar amp or a PA system. I'd like to read about this from Fender and other G-Dec3 users. I still have the G-Dec30 with a 50 watts Jensen and I don't have this problem. Here's what I found about this subject: Hope this helps.

"Buzz, Rattle
Context: I'm sure I hear a buzz on the low notes.
Description: There are generally two sources of buzz or rattle in a speaker. The first is due to a voice coil rub. If the voice coil has been overstressed due to heat from too much power, it will deform and touch the plate ring or the center pole. Sometimes it will only come in contact at peak excursions of the cone, such as during big bass notes. If the inside of the voice coil comes in contact with the pole, it might not even be noticeable, since both surfaces are fairly smooth, and the result would be a minor amount of what might be called white noise. However, if the outside of the voice coil comes in contact with the plate ring, the individual windings of the coil rub against an edge of the ring and the result would be similar to running your fingernail down the teeth of a comb. Some manufacturers actually hang the voice coil closer to the pole than to the plate ring for this reason.
The second source of buzz or rattle is from a magnet assembly that has worked loose from the speaker basket. There is a description of this problem and a possible cure on our Let's Talk Speakers Q & A page.

I have the G-DEC 30 and I also have the loud obnoxious buzzing sound at volume 4 using my Gibson Les Paul Studio. I get the buzzing sound on the bass notes on the fifth and sixth string. I don't think there is anything wrong with the amp. I just think the issue is the over-blown effects and amp modelling which ships as a default. I have been able to minimize the buzzing by making changes to the settings. I started with the Rockin G-DEC setting by using Dynatouch1 and lowering the gain to 5 with a Noise Gate set to Low which got rid of most of the buzzing sound. Gain is distortion so it makes sense to reduce it for a cleaner sound, but I am still looking for my ideal sound. I was able to get better sound for both my acoustic and electric guitars now. It seems many G-DEC owners have the same issue. I think the amp should have shipped with a few clean amp models. I would like some kind of clean warm jazz sound. There should be something cleaner than the Rockin G-DEC, Screaming, Baltic distortion sounds that come as default. All of the default settings have the same distortion which might be what some are looking for, but not everyone. There is a lot of potential here, but the owners manual doesn't give much guidance beyond telling you the numerous settings it lists. I have seen some insulting comments from a few who blame the new G-DEC owner like the answer is obvious, but it isn't. There are thousands of options available so it takes time and experimentation to figure out what the best combination might be. There is also no single right answer. I am here today because of this very issue seeking answers so it is probably not a hardware issue with your amp. The good news is you can customize the G-DEC to your liking once you figure out the many options available to you.

Hi there,

I hope this proves to be good news for those suffering from the 'buzz'.

I have (what I believe to be) the same problem. However, I believe the source of the buzz not to be speaker related but the front panel physically rattling (buzzing).

By 'front panel', I mean the angled black panel which sits behind the controls. When I enlist the help of my beautiful assistant (enter Vegas showgirl stage left), to press on the panel above the '3' of the 'G-DEC 3' logo on the left and the word "Thirty" on the right, the buzzing disappears! This is while I am playing a note which really causes a nasty buzz.

I have not yet come up with a solution but in my case, this is definitely the cause of the issue.

I have only had this amp a few weeks so will probably take it back tomorrow. Will keep you posted as to the results.

Regards from London
