Hello, this may be a dumb question, but I want to make sure that I don't hurt the amp or waste my money buying some effect pedals. I want to start using effect pedals with my G-DEC 3 Thirty amp. There is a pedal input jack on the back of the amp.

Will the G-DEC support the use of effect pedals or is the only pedal that will work the fender one that switches between presets, etc?

If it does can I just plug them into the pedal jack on the back of the amp or do I have to put them in-line with the input from the guitar?

I was thinking on getting just a distortion/overdrive pedal (or both) and a Wah pedal and using it on one of my Blackface clean amp settings w/Noise gate set to super. I did a search and got nothing and the Knowledgebase link in the post by Brad is broken..

Thanks for the assistance. I love the amp BTW, its really helped me along in my learning to play.

The footpedal jack on the back is for the 4 button controler. I don't think it's for pedals. Try pedals in front of the amp.

The wah should be fine. I have Jim dunlop wah and it seems to be fine in between the guitar and amp as per usual.

The distortion should be fine although be careful with the level (see my comment below for OD pedals). I have a boss DS-1 and it seems fine as long as the level is below half. I would say also that almost any pedal distortion you can get can probably be reproduced in the G-DEC already.

An OD pedal probably wont work. It will increase the level going into the amp and I suspect it will cause DSP processor to distort more than usual and also create odd artifacts. I don't have OD pedal handy to check, but lucky the GDEC includes a great stompbox OD in it already ;-)

So my advice is to not bother with the OD/DS pedals as the GDEC already does many types of those. The Wah on the other hand is a must have as the GDEC only has autowah which I have always found annoying.

Thanks for the response. I was just looking for a quick way to go from clean to overdrive and distortion without turning the knob. I could probably just buy the fender (ULT-4 I think is the model/PN) foot pedal thing and just switch up/down to the built in amp setting for clean/drive/distortion as they sound very good to me as is, and buy a crybaby wah pedal for the wah.

Thanks again

I highly recomend lashing out and buying the fender footswitch, it makes controling every aspect of the amp so much easier, well worth the extra dollars,( although it would be nice if it was included with the amp ) you can setup a clean preset beside another that has whatever effect you like on it and use the footswitch to change between them just like useing a clean and dirty channel on any other amp, without the footswitch you have to stop playing and turn the knob,(unless your a monkey and can use your feet  ) . I use my original crybaby on the guitar input without a problem.
