It's been awhile since I last visited (so long that I forgot my password). With the turn of a new year I am overjoyed that I managed to NOT buy any new gear and make my existing gear work harder. I am particularly excited about being able to connect my B-DEC to Propellerhead Reason and use my software instruments, instead of the B-DEC onboard synth, to generate the backing tracks. While combining a practice amp with a full blown GM2 midi synth is a significant feat, the sound quality of the synth doesn't meet live performance standards. Fortunately, the MIDI IN/OUT that were thoughtfully included in the B-BEC design have allowed me to connect it to 15 software samplers and 1 drum sampler. Now the B-DEC triggers high quality instrument sounds, so much so that a friend of mine barged into my practice room, wanting to know what I was playing that sounded so good. When I pointed to the B-DEC and my laptop, he just shook his head in disbelief, even after I played Practice Loop 3, 5 and 8. The Fender B-DEC 30: what an amazing product! Thanks Fender!

I had not used my B-DEC as a practice tool in a long while, because the loops got boring. Now that I can use the B-DEC as a controller, the new instrument sounds have given new life to the practice routing. For example, on performance loop, "Soulful Sky", I replaced the trombone sound with a sampled funk strat guitar and I replaced the drum loop with a sampled drum set. Man, the song sounds so much better! I am now transferring some of my favorite midi files to the B-DEC, with the intent of creating a travel kit that will work with any hardware or software DAW that has its ow sound generators. Stay tuned for more updates!
