Hi all -

So I encountered a weird problem last night when I finally began using headphones with my G-Dec 15. I still have the factory presets for some stuff (which I really like) and an interesting issue popped up with preset 6 (Deluxe Clean) in which the headphones sound begings to get static and cut in and out when I strum hard. Now, the volume knob on the amp is set to 3 (it isn't very loud when using the speaker), and my guitar is a normal PRS Mira stock. I tried several pairs of headphones to make sure it wasn't a headphone issue, and it happens with all of them. I have two Sony studio reference monitors, an audio techinica studio monitor and your basic ipod ear buds. The firmware is 1.0.4. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks
Jorge

I've had this issue too, can anyone tell me if this a problem with the amp or is it normal?

Re: Head phone distortion issues

Yes, this is a real issue. I hear the distortion (very bassy) mostly when I play on the E, A, and D strings (wound), and it's intermittent, but quite obvious. It's also very evident if I use my DigiTech RP-90 effects pedal on certain presets. To me, it sounds as if the Headphone/Line Out circuitry can't deal with the gain from certain settings, even at very low volume (2 or 3 on the volume scale).

Is anyone from Fender aware of this issue? Is it a hardware problem that can't be fixed on amps already in the field (as I suspect)? If so, that's quite concerning.

Hey Guys,

Is there certain amp models that you notice this behavior on? You might want to try re-flashing firmware version 1.04.

It seems like the headphone amp is being overdriven and can't handle it. When I pull the plug and play through the amp speaker there is no problem unless I crank the volume up to the max and basically overdrive the amp speaker. It sounds like a typical solid state amp clipping.

I just purchased my amp on the weekend and am having the same issue. It seems to be on the Blackface Clean amp with the gain and volume almost or all the way to ten.

Can this be corrected or should I bring my amp back to the store?

Try backing off of the volume and gain a little bit. You don't hear it through the speaker?

The speaker is fine, but the headphones are distorted. i tried different headphones and they all have the same issue. I also should have mention that I upgraded the firmware and the issue remained...so I flashed the it again to make sure there wasn't an issue with the firmware and there was no change (still distorted)

Is this a common issue with all G-Dec 3 15s? Does the same issue occur with the 30? If I upgraded to the 30 would I not have this issue?

I don't think having to turn down the volume and gain on the preset is a valid solution.

Unfortunately i have the same problem. I've tested amp on several headphones and it occurs on every one of them so i assume that it's amp fault.
When i hit high frequency sound the sound in headphones cracks. It only occurs with headphones - built-in speaker works great.
Is there any solution for this or should i bring amp back to the store?

Hi Xelos,

We recommend that you bring your Fender G-DEC 3 amp back to your dealer and bring your headphones. Make sure that you test the same behavior on an additional Fender G-DEC 3 to make sure it works to your satisfaction. If so, you should ask to have the store replace your amp for another unit. Please let the dealer know that you have been in touch with Fender and please let us know if we can assist further.

please excuse my not so good english writing

Since a short while i own a new mustang 2 and a new G-Dec 3 fifteen
i have the same problem with the distorted headphone sound.
if you use the Cat scratch F preset that is on the fuse site and engage the 'Timbre' option Full body and even worse the full stack and strum on the Bass strings you get a very distorted sound that in full stack will go in a terrible hiss that only is going away by changing a preset.
i can record it on the G-DEC as phrase but cannot store it so i could send up the sound file

i use a sennheiser HD435 manhattan, , HD 435 Vegas, ore a HD 320 expressionline but the all have the same results.

G-DEC has the newest firmware, so i am lost in what is happening with this amp.
what to do, go back to the store?

Hi R0tjeKn0r,

Thanks for your feedback. What we can recommend, in your case, would be to try and perform a Factory Restore using an SD card. Before performing this step, we do recommend that you backup all customized content from your Fender G-DEC 3 amplifier, using the Fender Fuse software, so you don't loose it in the Factory Restore process. Pleas let us know how it goes and if we can assist further.

Hello.
i have done the factory restore twice and it happens with the normal G-DEC firmware and i tried the blues firmware to and have the same problem.

not only the cat scratch F patch is having this problem.
i was adjusting other presets and some of them would get me the same distorted sound.

Just replaced the original firmware end loaded the cat scratch preset, and again a very distorted sound when turned on the full body ore full stack option in the timbre box.

are there some members that would try the cat scratch preset with a headphone and full stack timbre to see if this is a structural problem ore not?
