I bought this amp after having both the original 15 watt version and the last G-Dec 30 amp as well, I was quite pleased with those amps. This new version is just plain not producing any tones or sounds which are of the least bit desirable. I have a Blues Jr. Texas Red which is my main amp and obviously this will sound light years better. Having said that my older G-decs were decent sounding for a cheaper solid state and I could dial them in to sound pretty nice. I am mostly running my two strat throught it mostly, a 65 custom shop and a AVRI 57, both nice guitars with great pickups, but regardless the amp sounds horrible. I have tried every preset as well as tinkering with other setting and using my pedals but nothing. It has basically become a way to play my files and backing tracks, it has no other use, I could easily use my computer for this and have saved $450. This is unfortunate because I like the headphone jack for night time which my Jr. doesn't have but it pains me everytime I put my guitar through it. I will mention the only thing that sounds halfway decent is a humbucker guitar with lots of distortion, this is a style I almost ever play. :?: :? :x

Any suggestions?

I've only found about 5-6 presets that are not really terrible. I just use them. A waste as far as I can see - - and the backing tracks to most are metronome sounds -- whats up with that?? I did find the following - might be of some help for you - note my last entry:

Give the above link a look at and see if it does not help.

I think the amp is great!! if only I knew how to operate it.

Try starting out with the volume turned fairly low down on the guitar. This works well for me, especially on the high gain presets. Push the volume up as you find presets you like, but in small increments. Then again I have a Les Paul, so that may also make a big difference. I love all the different sounds I can get, but I always have to play lower than on my other amp. Also, if you remove the rear panel of the G-dec so it is an open back, the bass improves substantially and the highs become cleaner and crisper. My favorite presets are 21 for blues, 40 for rock and 72 for acoustic type stuff. I have taken those presets and fiddled with them and saved my own variations.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have made a little progress but maybe I am just expecting to much from the amp. The notes sounds very tinny and really sound horrible compared to my Blues Jr.

I'm getting great tones with mine. Try cutting back on the gain on the presets, I had to go through most of them and dial them back. Also, play with the noise gate. Going to the super setting usually takes the noise out without affecting the overall sound quality. I'm using an EC Custom shop and MIM Powerhouse strat. Both sound great to me, even when I dial in the built in overdrive on the guitars. Try going directly to a PA or powered speaker using the line out for a test comparison. Maybe there is something wrong the the speaker. Take whatever preset you like and dial back the gain and increase it to your likeing, you should be able to dial in a tone to your liking. I downloaded the Jeff Beck Clean tone and I sounds good to me, not quite a clean sound, more like slightly overdriven. Keep tweaking, you should be able to dial in something to your liking.
