HI. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS ALLOWABLE, SO PLEASE FORGIVE ME IF THIS IS A FAUX-PAX. I AM GETTING TOO OLD TO FIGURE OUT THE COMPLEX AND UNREADABLE MANUALS OF TODAYS MODERN DEVICES...ESPECIALLY THE G-DEC 30. AM I ALLOWED TO ASK IF ANYONE IN MY AREA COULD TEACH ME HOW TO PROGRAM IT AND FIND AND DOWNLOAD MIDI FILES? I WOULD GLADLY PAY IF THIS IS ALLOWED. I LIVE IN BELLMORE, LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK.

THANKS.

I'll agree with you about one thing, the GDEC-3 Owner's Manual SUCKS bigtime. It has nothing to do with you, your age or ability to learn; it's just a BAD document. I suggest you try the "Advanced" Owner's manual. It is a [i]little[i] better, but it is still a long way from a good "how to" for people that just want to DO THINGS with the amp and not spend all their time experimenting with HOW to get something done.

You can find the Advanced Owner's manual at (I hope I enter this url correctly 8

Also check out www.mygdec.com They have a great user manual from forum user workerbee that really breaks it down into a user friendly document. Tons of tips and settings too!

I understand your frustrations. I have actually given up trying to update my G-Dec 30 or downloading midi files. I contacted Fender about how ' not' user friendly this amp was and received the reply "we know". Thanks Fender.
Why they didn't supply the appropriate software with this amp is beyond me. I just use the amp now as a covenient alternative to my Peavy Classic 50. The onboard drums gave up the ghost quite a while ago. You have to re-install the factory defaults constantly to restore the drums.
We are not all Eric Johnson so his touting the benefits of this amp was a little misleading.

Pacifica - Fender REALLY gave you a "WE KNOW" response? What would be really enlightening to folks is, if you have that in writing, you could post it somewhere. People should know! I'm hoping the G-Dec 3 is better, but you know my opinion on the documentation. I haven't had much time to "play" with the amp so far, but I'm hoping I have better luck.

Thanks everybody, both for the sympathy and suggestions. It's amazing that a company like fender can't do better than "we know", such as providing a better manual. I guess they feel they don't have to, and shame on eric johnson for promoting the g-dec: doesn't he have enough money already?

Bit of a slow reply but this link may still be helpful.
Gotta pay for it but it could be $20 bucks well spent.
Check it out.

I also had problems with using midi to update my G-DEC 30 using a Compaq Windows XP desktop. I think the issue may have been USB related because the system had limited USB 2 ports. Since then I updated to a 2010 Dell Windows 7 laptop with all USB 2 ports and I was able to use the midi connection. I connect using a Hosa dual midi cable to M-Audio Fastrack Pro USB interface. I was able to update the software, change my presets, and load fresh midi songs. The manual is good at listing all of the features, but it does not do a good job at explaining how to take advantage of all that power.

Thanks. It's really shameful that Fender put out a product with such miserable instructions. I wonder which foreign country they're farming their stuff out to.

I hope someone in Fender management is monitoring this site.

I purchased a G-DEC 30 and the Fender employees responsible for the production of the owner's manual should be fired! Not only is the manual poorly written but there is no continuity in each topic. I got so fed up with trying to program a song that I simply don't use the programming features of the amp. If the manual writers are reading this, they might take note that it will help a great deal if the would include examples of how to program certain songs or rhythms.

Someone else commented that they contacted Fender on this issue and the people at Fender indicated that they were aware of the poorly written manual. Well, if they wanted to maintain the respect of the Fender amp customers, they should hire someone to revise the user manual and place of this website for downloading.

Again, I hope the people at Fender read this.

I have to agree with the other posts on this page. Being an old network tech and installing all kinds of software and some from a 3rd world country. But a company like fender slipping in this poor excuse for instruction...that was a waste of paper and tree's.

On the upside, there are allot of posts from other users that have had the same trouble and have posted their work-around....as us tech use to say "If all fails...google it"

Thanks for your post, mickk. They have 13 free videos too. I have been watching the the first four so far, and I have already learnt a lot that I didn't know about my G-Dec. You can sign up, and receive a new link for a video each day for 13 days. Or, if you don't want to give them your e-mail adress, just search for "learnguitargear" on YouTube, all the free videos are posted there.

Of course they will send me mails after the 13. day promoting their sales products, but that's not a too high price to pay. I really recommend these videos for everyone who have not fully learnt how to make use of the G-Dec.

(When I read what I have written I can see that this contribution may look like an advertisement for learnguitargear, so I would like to add that I have no connection with this company at all. I am just a hobby guitarist trying to find out of my equipment.)
