Hi Everybody,

Is the file format (*.sys) for the preset editor documented anywhere? I'd like to have a way to import/export from XML, CSV, XLS or something that would be easier to work with. Wouldn't it be nice to have presets in a spreadsheet where you could sort them as needed, save them to a SYS file and then upload them to the G-Dec?

If someone could supply me the format, I'd be happy to write the program and offer it to the community as completely free, opensource.

TIA...

I have that spreadsheet and it's great. In fact, it's what gave me the idea.
What I don't have is a way to easily import/export that spreadsheet to/from my G-Dec. If I had the file format for the presets.sys used by by the preset editor, I could write a program to translate between csv, xml, xls or whatever and the sys file.

Yeah, that would be great, but I dont tHink its possible. The closest you can get is the pre sets editor...

Kind of late to this party but...

The *.sys file format is a MIDI System Exclusive message file. This is a well documented format and you can find lots of info doing a web search. Here is one such link but you can find many others:

http://www.philrees.co.uk/service/targets4.htm

As far as what does what on a G-DEC, you'll just have to experiment. I would start by sending messages from the G-DEC 15 or 30 Preset Editor and intercepting them. By making a change in the Preset Editor and sending the message, eventually you can work out what the different bytes do.

Laborious, true. But without a more detailed MIDI implementation chart from Fender, it's pretty much the only way.
