I have the original G-Dec 30. I am brand new to trying to record on a computer. What do I need and how do I start? I have an iMac, G-Dec 30 with foot pedal and a guitar.

Please assume I know NOTHING and help me find what I need and how to begin.

Thanks in advance for your time and help!

Well, There are several options...
you could use the line out cabled to a computer interface, see Apogee one or duet for example. http://www.apogeedigital.com/ There are other less expensive interfaces out there, but thats what I use.

If you don't have or want an interface, you could get a usb mic...
With your mac, I assume you have "Garage Band"? If you do your practically all set, once you connect to the computer.

I think you can use the midi interface as well al though Im not sure about that one...

Good Luck

Bill

Thank you!

What is an interface?

What cord do I used to connect to the computer?

As far as I can tell there isn't a usb port on the amplifier.

No, there is no usb on the gdec

a interface is a device that will allow you connect your guitar ,mic, amp etc To your computer, normally through usb or firewire. check out he apogee link above.
Hope this helps.

You can get tons of info on interfaces, if you google it

Bill

My son uses a MacBook and just runs a cable from the guitar to a clean signal booster to the line in (with a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter) and uses the amp models and fx in garageband. It seems to work okay.

Regarding USB mics, the Blue Snowball is a decent one. Good luck!

You could get a decent hand held mic recorder like the ZOOM H2 or H4 they do a pretty good job of getting one track down and it's easy to transfer to the computer via a usb cable. From there you can post it, convert it or edit it.
