Id like to use my GDEC 30 to gig small clubs and venues. I'm thinking of getting a couple of speakers to hookup through line out which I will direct the backup tracks to while playing my guitar through the GDEC speaker.

I would think this is a common setup and would appreciate any recommendations as to what monitor speakers would be a good match for this setup without breaking the bank.

Thanks!

Hi, from page 8 of the manual, press and hold the exit button to enter utility mode, where the settings for line-out, and speaker are. You can switch between 'all' and bandtrack on line out,
and switch between 'all' and guitar on the speaker. I would test it on
your home stereo to see if its what you expect. You'll need a second amplifier or powered speakers rated for line input, if that's you're best option.

It says you can connect powered speakers to the headphone output,
which will mute the main speaker, but if the sound is available at the line out, perhaps a useful combo can be reached. Probably cant switch off the bandtrack at the headphone, but maybe its volume can be lowered separately from the line-out, using the soft-key settings in bandmode?

ah, the new gear experiments :)

Sixline,

Thanks for your help but perhaps I was not clear in my post. I know the process of setting it up, what I am looking for is a reccomendation on what speakers would matchup well ( brand, model ) and are not to expensive. Also, must the speakers be powered speakers or will passive speakers also work well when connected through the line out of the GDEC 30?

I am using two Behringer powered PA speakers. Mine are the older 212A 400 watt versions but they have a newer series out now that can be had for around $280 a piece. They are an affordable way for me to crank up the GDEC 3!

Mackie has powered PA speakers also. This weekend I used it for the first time outside my home and just used an instrument cable from the line out to an input channel on the pa and it sounded great. At home I used an instrument cable and plugged in to my 60 watt Roland Blues Cube using the Return for the input that way it bi-passes the Roland preamp and uses only the power side so it doesn't color the tone. All I can say is sounded really good with alot of bottom and all the power I need. One thing I like about the line out feature is it is not affected by the Gdec amp vol, so you can tweak away like your personal monitor and not drive the sound guy crazy with output levels.

Thanks,

I was looking at some Behringer monitors, they seem to be well made and a decent value.

I have also run a line out to my 130 watt tube Music Man amp and that sounded great as well.

Hi Billy,

How did you connect it to your Music Man amp, did you use a splitter to combine the left and right stereo outputs of the GDEC into one mono output or did you use two cable from the GDEC and go into two separate channels of your Music Man amp?

Thanks!

This is an economical option. On sale right now. I have some Kustom unpowered monitors that have been suprisingly good.
