I recently noticed that when I play certain notes on the 6th string the speaker makes a horrible sound. It almost sounds like something is loose inside. I opened the back, and it looks fine. It's like there is too much bass on specific notes. I have only noticed this on the 6th string.

Has anyone else noticed this? Should I replace the speaker or have it checked?

Thanks.

Hey Gary,

If nothing is loose in there it sounds like it could possibly be a speaker issue.I would play some music with some low end through it and listen for the noise. Do you hear the noise on any specific Presets or types of Presets?

Have you checked to see that you have proper string clearance up and down the fretboard? It sounds like maybe there's a problem there.

This issue happens with several differnet guitars, and on all of the presets. It's more noticible when I play the notes harder. It sounds like a vibration coming from the speaker.

I do not hear this when I play with headphones.

I also tried another G-DEC 3 Thirty at GC, and it didn't sound like this.

How can I replace the speaker?

Hey Gary,

It sounds like you may need your amp looked at by a tech. Give us a call here and we'll find one closest to you.

It should be under warranty. Wouldn't the store replace it for you, especially if you demonstrated that their demo model doesn't do it?!?

I removed the back and tried it, but it sounded the same. Is that what you mean by the baffle board?

I haven't looked into returning the amp for a replacement, but that may not be a bad idea.

the baffleboard is the board on/to which the speaker is mounted. Check tightness of speaker screws/bolts while you're at it.

I checked the speaker, and it was securely mounted.

I had the G-DEC sitting on top of another combo amp, and I thought that might be the issue. When I put the G-DEC on the floor the problem was gone.

Interesting.

Glad it turned out to not be the amp was causing the noise.
