I just bought this item (15W) as my first amp. The price was right so I bought it even though I not ready for 95% of it's features. I have been told to never buy musical equipment that is for your skill level as you will quickly outgrow it.

I have never operated an amp before and have no idea what to do with all the adjustments.

MY PROBLEM, in addition to those listed above, is that I just cannot get a clean, straight-through, amplified sound. I have used all variations of the clean presents along with different clean sounding amps.

Can anyone help me?

I may just take this back and get one of those $100 cubes.

I found this as a reply to another question:

"Hey Linkster,

If you'd like a nice clean tone with no effects added I recommend choosing the Blackface Clean amp type with all tone controls set to neutral. You can do this quickly in Fender FUSE by clicking the New button. Completely bypassing amp models isn't possible given the fact that the G-DEC 3 is a modeling amplifier. I hope that helps.

Loren"

I will try this but:

Is it neutral just on the Treble, Middle and Bass?
What about Gain?
Does Volume effect it?
Is the setting 5 neutral?

Hey dedicatednoob,

All of those setting should be between 5 and 6. If it's not loud enough, the Volume can be raised without changing the tone too much.

Thanks Loren,

I went through it all and figured it out. I went with 5s all the way and I get a very clean sound out of it.

I guess maybe I will keep it and try to grow into it.

I started about 40 yrs too late but I will keep at it.

Thanks again!

Kevin

Kevin,

There are also some very good clean tones on the fuse website. I have a few of them loaded onto my amp and really enjoy them. There's one called "princeton" and I think one called "63 Reverb Tweed". I also recommend playing with the tone controls in the preset and setting the "timbre" to full to get the biggest, warmest, tone.

The only real complaint I've had with the gdec is the fact that most of the presets are way too far over the top with effects and gain.

I think you'll find the gdec to be a great beginners amp. The backing track features will get you into playing over chord changes and the various amp models will come in handy when you want to play songs in different styles and get close to their tones.

Have Fun.

Dave
