Hello all from France !
The Guitar Tone Volume Button on my Gdec has absolutly no effect anyway I turn it. It seems to be always cranked up, causing some clipping, even at low general volume. Is that normal ?
Thank you for any help.

edit : typo

Hey emzc,

Welcome to the Fender Forums. That doesn't sound like normal behavior for the Tone Knob. You're saying there is no change in the sound whether the knob is set to 1 or 10, correct? How long ago did you purchase your amp?

Exactly, the Guitar Tone button seems to have no effect : the volume is the same, whether on 1 or 10. I bought it one month ago from thomann.de.
So if you say it's not normal behaviour, i'll have to contact them.
Thank you for your reply.

You should definitely contact your dealer and find out if they can take a look at it for you. That's very strange behavior.

Hi,

I also assumed a problem with the Guitar Tone Control on my new G-Dec 3 30. I returned the amp to the seller (Hot Licks Guitar Shop, Waldorf, Maryland) and was given a very helpful demonstration of the control by their technical/support department.

The Guitar Tone Control produces very subtle changes, not unlike a fine tuner The master tone controls are usually located on the guitar plugged into the G-Dec. The G-Dec's adjusts for small changes in pitch frequency.

Personally, it took the support person turning the tone control knob through it's minima and maxima extremes before my 62 year old ears detected the small frequency shifts in tonal change. Unless one has perfect pitch the control is non-essential, IMHO.

Thanks,

Bflat

Thank you Bflat, you nail it : it's so subtle it took me some time to understand and hear the change. So this Guitar tone control is working well, and subtle.

Thanks to you also Loren, the problem is solved.

Subtle is certainly the right word.

I tend to just leave mine between 5 and 6 while using the guitar tone knobs for frequency changes.

Is there a tone knob position that would be considered "neutral" or "equally balanced" between the upper and lower frequencies where the input signal remains unaffected?

Is it a linear control or are certain frequencies rolled off more as you turn the knob?

Can anyone at Fender provide enlightenment?

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the delay. The Tone knob is basically a one knob EQ control. The lower numbered settings roll off some highs while the higher numbers roll off bass. It's a fairly linear control. Between 5 and 6 is where I would set it to get a neutral EQ setting.
