Let's assume for a moment that there is no issue with the Phones Socket :?

My amp is fine in that respect but when I plug my Sennheiser HD515's in to it the sound is nothing like my amp at all!! In fact the sound is rubbish

I know there's a huge area of personal preference but can anybody recommend a set of headphones that do justice to the Amp?

Thanks.

I have Sony MDR-V6 headphones and I would say I have the same problem. The difference in sound between speakers and headphones is dramatic. Enough so that I only use headphones if absolutely needed.

I wonder if the line outs into a PA have the same issue?

Thanks for the reply. It's a shame though that you seem to have exactly the same problem as me!

Can anyone save us from this horrendous headphone headache?

Hi Guys,

I have just done a bit of testing here in our lab. I listened to a portable media player playing 256kbps mp3 files. I then listened to a Fender American Strat. I then listened to several stock Band Tracks from the Fender G-DEC 3 Fifteen amp itself.

I used a standard pair of mid quality consumer headphones (Sony MDR-G51). I found the sound quality to be very good overall & clean. The gain was a bit low, likely due to the headphones themselves. Otherwise, all was good.

I hope this information is helpful.

Best Regards,

I am using the line out jacks on the back of the amp and my set up with a Yamaha headset is actually better than the speaker in the amp. You can read about my set up in the post: Work Around for Headphone Jack
I am using a small personal amp (about 6 inches x 4 inches X 1 inch) between the line outs and the headphones. On my setup the headphones are connected all the time-when I want headphones I set the amp volume to "1" and put on the headset. You could get an amplified headset and try that in the headphone jack on the amp.

Someone asked about the line outs to a speaker system-works great. Line outs(Y mono adapter) to a 130 watt amp works super for me. Sounds better that the G Dec 3 speaker. Some users are using twin speaker towers with great results also.

On the old version G-Dec 30, the Yamaha headphones worked in the headphone jack without amplification and had a much better sound than the Gdec 30 could produce.

I use Koss MV-1s and they sound fantastic. Much better than the speaker itself. I have improved the speaker sound by removing the back of the cabinet, making it an open air cabinet. Not as good as the headphones, but still a big improvement
