2 things!

1. It must be a G-DEC 3, not a G-DEC (those only use MIDI files).

2. If it's in iTunes format, it must be converted to mp3 format. This can be done by burning a CD with the songs you want, then ripping them back to the computer in mp3 format using Windows Media Player or any other player of that type (WinAmp, Real, etc.)

Have fun!
Bob

P.S. You can also convert without the burning step if you have Switch Sound File Converter, which is available free online.

Thanks! Good news: I am using the G-DEC 3. Once I have the file converted to the proper file format, does the track need to be saved to the SD card, or can I replace an existing track on a preset, with my new one?

Ex. I love the channel 99 blackface clean sound, but would love to replace the band track.

Thanks again!

You can copy the mp3 into the audio directory on your SD card and then it will be available from the quick access button. You can also add it as the band track on your 99 preset. You might have to do that with the Fuse software. Look for the advanced manual which is posted on a sticky thread in the forum. I think it will give you the step by step.

Ok, so I have made it as far as successfully copying the new jam tracks to the SD card. I can see them in the scroll trough menu's on the G-DEC screen.

But when I select them, the GDEC seems to freeze. Not only does no sound come out, but I can't exit that preset, or do anything aside from turning the amp off, and restarting the system.

Can mp3's freeze the system?

Yes the mp3 must be 16 bit. You may need to adjust the sample rate or bit rate also.

This is an important link to resources for the GDEC 3.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the answers. Just to be clear, WAV files need to be in 16 bit format but MP3's can be pretty much any sample rate and bit depth.

tele_head:
Have you updated your amp's firmware to v1.03? If not, take a look at this post.

1) G-Dec can only use mp3 and WAV(at 16bit format only it seems)

Problem Solved:
i know a lot of people use itunes and so have files in m4a format to change them to mp3 right click and select create mp3 version, this will create another version of the same file in mp3 format which can then be used on the G-Dec

2)Once the file is in the appropriate format there are two options to get the track onto your G-Dec:

a)Use the Fuse software(easiest way)
First, go to your media library and find the "Add to library" button (top right)
Next, find the file (in mp3/Wav format) and add it
Finaly, right click on it in the fuse software and select save to amp HD or SD slelect one of theses (depending on your circumstance)
Job Done

b)Change the G-Dec to disc mode(slightly more complicated)
To do this hold down the exit button(under the wheel) for the utility menu and then go left twice for USB Drive option
This will make your G-Dec essentialy a hard drive where file can be transfered as in any other hard drive (drag and drop or copy and paste)
(make sure you put your tracks into the "audio folder")

3)You're nearly there, The song should now be on your G-Dec to find it hit
Band button->mp3/wav->scroll to the track you want(these are in alphabetical order)->start/stop button

And there you go your song should be playing

Note: if you want this band track to always be used for this preset hit save button(it should be red now)

Happy playing,
Light
