Hey yellowkid-Italy,

Welcome to the Fender forums. The smell should decrease noticeably within a few days. If it doesn't please let us know.

häbbe: Do you still notice a smell on your amp?

Last night I put the g-dec on the balcony. In Milan there is much wind, I hope the wind takes away that horrible smell! Otherwise I go to California and put the g-dec it in the office of the Fender CEO as deodorant... and cat repellent!

Seriously (before I was kidding).
The G-DEC I bought last Wednesday. I pulled out of the box in the store and immediately I noticed the smell but I did not pay much attention. I noticed the smell better when I put the amp in the house. The smell lasted for four days without decreasing. Yesterday (as written) I have located the G-dec on the balcony, open air, this morning I noticed an improvement.
Probably it is the solvent of glue used to mount the amplifier cover (but this is still not a good thing if you think this amplifier is designed for home use).

I love the smell of a fresh Gdec 3 in the morning!

Me too Billy. That "new" smell will leave soon enough (actually, it's about gone now) :)

Hi Loren,
the heavy smell of the first weeks faded away, so you don't immediately notice anymore "that there is a G-DEC in the room" when you're entering. But when I'm sitting close to the amp, I can still smell it.
Regards

after 2 weeks in the open air smell is almost completely gone. When I sit too near the amp feel a slight smell, but not annoying. The cats are back to fill the room with their hair!

A tip: when you leave the G-dec on the porch, check the weather!

D**n. Wish I'd read this thread before purchasing. My new G-DEC smells insanely bad, I echo the sentiment of pity for the poor workers who put these units together.

Would be curious to know if either yellowkid-Italy or Habbe ever got over the smell with their units.

This does not smell like something that will go away in a week. Walked through the house with this and felt like I was gassing my family, quite a bummer since I do like them.

@chunkybrain: Mine was smelling for about 4 weeks. I didn't use it in a closed room and left it in the garage for that time. When I played inside my living room afterwards I noticed, a strong supply noise. To avoid to have a new chemical weapon at home for weeks again, I'm still living with the annoying supply noise. Really bad! Unfortunately didn't know about a competing device with similar feature set. Otherwise I would have return it.
The smell will go but if you have the noise it will stay...

Thanks skuehn,

Four weeks is an awfully long time, and my guess is that it's still off-gassing (formaldehyde or whatever else) into your home and this stuff is really pretty bad for you whether you can smell it or not.

I'm suprised Fender hasn't addressed this if it's been a known issue for over a year, it's a health hazard.

Any chance you can mention the competing model with similar feature set, assuming you may be referring to Line6 Spider Jam but not sure.

Thanks.

Strange. Mine came still in the shipping box with the display box inside, and I never noticed a smell. I think I've owned mine for about 2 weeks.

Interesting, that's exactly how mine came and I'm definitely not imagining the smell, it's awful. Out of curiosity, what is the date of manufacture on yours, should be on the back somewhere? Mine says 06/10 which I also found a bit surprising thinking the turnover on these would be quicker than that, so maybe the retailer is dumping a known "bad batch" or something. I notice this thread starts right around that time.

Mine say 2/2011. I guess they have a long turn around time from China to the Fender warehouse to the GC warehouse, to the store. It would be interesting to see the logistics of these things, or anything, I guess.
