I took my new G-DEC out of the box 3 days ago and it still has an extremely heavy chemical smell - to the point that my wife does not accept it in the living room (no yoke  and I can understand her) where the PC is.
I will keep it some more days and wait and see, but probably have to return it. Any hope that the smell will fade away? Any ideas?

Mine had the same smell for about 4 or 5 days, but it went away. It's the covering on the cabinet causing it. No worries!

Yes it will go away. Mine had the same thing and didn't take long to disipate.

My amp smelled really bad for about a week, then it slowly faded away. It doesn't smell at all now. (about a month later)

The smell will disappear. Mine went after about 5 days too.

Hi,
so you were lucky. I took my G DEC out of the box 10 days ago, there is still the same biting chemical smell of the first days, no way to install it in the living room near to the PC, I think I will have to return it...
Any idea Loren, Alan?

Hey Habbe,

As the others have said it usually wears off after a week or so. Has the smell weakened at all after 10 days? I'm currently looking into this issue.

Loren

Hi Loren,
thank you for your reply. My impression is, that the smell is still the same. I have the amp in my rehearsal room, and I enter the room, I definitely know it' there :( but it is not meant to be there, I want to put it in my living room.

Give it just a few more days, it will go away. It's the covering or glue used to attach it. Mine smelled pretty strong for over a week and is now fine. If you take it back you're just going to get another one that smells the same unless you buy one off the floor and not boxed. I'd rather have one that was boxed and not used by everyone trying it out. Give it some more time, you'll be glad you waited.

Just bought a G-Dec 3-30 today and the chemical stink isn't as bad as "could be."

However, do have a exhaust fan in next room and open window in music room.

Chinese glue/plastic bags/tolex?

Pity the poor factory workers!

Well, mine doesn't smell and didn't smell. So there is that - and no I don't have a house full of cats either. :) :)

I had a smell for about 3 weeks, but it got less as the time went on. There is no odor at all now. Maybe if you put it on a back porch or garage to air out for awhile?

I just bought the G-dec 30 and when I pulled out of the box I immediately felt the chemical smell. Initially I thought it was the smell of the packaging, but then I smelled that comes right from the amplifier. I read your post and I hope that after some days the smell will go away ... also because my cats do not come into my room and if they do, sneeze! Certainly not a healthy smell, takes me directly to my throat!

I noticed that many products made in China have a characteristic odor. In many cases, these lubricants and adhesives used for assembly. I wonder if these substances are permitted by the European Community ... All Fender products have the logo "EC"
