Hi, I receive the message "Invalid File" when trying to
import some files from the inserted SD card to the G-Dec. On my SD card I've got all the original G-Dec presets plus those I've downloaded with Fuse and they all are in their designed folder (PRESETS).
Here's the list of all my downloaded presets giving me this error message:
Chuck Berry
clapcream
CleanBlues
gilmour-ish-1
jimihendrixpurplehaze
NoneYa
Twighlight New moon
Wave
All the other presets can be import without any problem. I'm very curious about what could cause this. :roll:

Hi Guys,

Can either of you tell me where/how you "downloaded" these Presets that are showing Invalid? In other words, were they downloaded from a browser directly, and to the SD card? Or were they downloaded through Fender FUSE, then to the SD card through FUSE? Thanks.

Best Regards,

I downloaded the presets from my browser directly and saved them to the SD card.

Hi, I downloaded these presets using Fuse and placed them in the proper directory like all the other ones that worked fine.

Hi Run Duke,

I downloaded some of those presets using Fender FUSE and sent them to the amp using Fender FUSE as well. They loaded up fine. I would suggest sending presets to your amp using Fender FUSE. There are some presets that contain XML info that can't be read by the amp, causing it to display "invalid file". Transferring these presets using FUSE will save them as a format the amp can read.

Hi,

i am experiencing the same problems when trying to transfer presets to the SD card.
Here is what i do:
1. Create preset in Fuse (V2.4 on Mac OS X 10.6)
2. Save preset
3. Switch to media library and send the preset to SD card which is located in the G-Dec 3
4. When trying to import the preset via utilities in Amp menu, the preset is regarded as invalid file.

Btw: The preset works fine when i send it to the Amp directly. I can also export the preset from amp to sd card and then reimport it.

Any help is appreciated - greetings from Germany,
Beissi

Hey Beissi,

Do you have firmware version 1.04 installed on your amp?

I'm experiencing the same problem. I create and save a preset in Fuse. Copy the .fuse file to the Presets folder on my SD card. Insert the SD card into my G-DEC 3 30. Attempt to import the file to my G-DEC 3 30 and get the same "invalid file" (or "invalid format"...I forget exactly which one) message.

I opened the .fuse preset file in question with a text editor and noticed the XML on the second line was different from presets downloaded from the Fender Fuse website that import and work correctly.

The XML line in question saved by Fuse that results in the invalid format message:
<Preset amplifier="G-DEC 3.0" ProductId="10">

If I manually change that line to the following, the file imports and works correctly:
<Preset amplifier="G-DEC3">

Note that I am running Fuse v2.5.0.22 on Mac OS X 10.6.8. The version of Microsoft Silverlight loaded on my Mac is v4.0.60531.0. My G-DEC 3 30 is a regular black face version with the Blues Edition v1.04 firmware loaded on it.

Hey Guys,

Are you able to import a preset that was downloaded from the Community but not imported into FUSE?

It depends on the preset. Some downloaded from the community seem to work right away while others do not.

For example, "hallelujah" (GD_hallelujah.fuse) and "Eric Clapton - Layla" (GD_eric-clapton-layla.fuse) do not work when:
- Downloaded from the Fuse community
- Copied directly to an SD card plugged into my computer's SD card reader
- The SD card is removed from my computer
- Inserted into my G-DEC 3 30's SD card reader
- And the presets are imported using the amp's controls.
Viewing the contents of those presets using a text editor, I see that the second line in each file is:
<Preset amplifier="G-DEC 3.0" ProductId="10">

Whereas the presets such as "Texas Flood" (GD_texas-flood.fuse) that do work with my amp have the following entry instead:
<Preset amplifier="G-DEC3">

If you create and save a new preset (at least with the amp disconnected but possibly with the amp connected, too) and view its contents, it has the same XML entry as the presets above that do not work with the amp (i.e., <Preset amplifier="G-DEC 3.0" ProductId="10">). So even if you test a new preset out with the amp connected to your computer, saving the preset in Fuse (at least with the amp disconnected) prior to uploading to the community will result in uploading a preset file that is unreadable by the amp.

Basically, it appears that the XML written to the .fuse file by the Fuse desktop app (at least the one for the Mac) is incompatible with the G-DEC 3 30 amp's firmware.

It's possible that the amp can read the preset when connected to the computer because the format of the preset data transferred from computer to amp is not exactly the same as what's in the .fuse file. Or if it is, perhaps the XML is modified when transferred over USB vs. saved to file. But I'm just speculating there. Either way, something is different.

Many thanks!

Hey Blue Cajun,

You are correct. The files are two different formats. I just noticed that I misread Beissi's post. The presets were never intended to be copied from FUSE to an SD card for use with the amp. The main purpose of the SD card is for Band Tracks. The preset SD card functionality is there so that you can copy some presets to an SD card and take them to another computer running FUSE.

Thanks for the reply, Loren. Regarding the two different formats, I understand that they were not meant to be compatible. But they are so very close. It really would only require that one very minor change in Fuse to make this work.

Many of us have our G-DEC amps physically located in a different part of the house from our computer. When downloading and uploading presets to and from the Fuse community (which is something I know Fender really wants to promote and grow), it is much easier to move an SD card across the house than a 25 lb. amp. All it would take is one minor software modification to make this feature a reality.

Something to consider...

Again, many thanks for your help.

While I have issues here as well and I'm at work and can't confirm the differences above, I did find something interesting. The backup files I have? The presets ALL contain <Preset amplifier="G-DEC 3.0" ProductId="10">. It seems while the amp can't import files with this line it sure as heck mucks it up itself. I dunno. I have a ton of presets I can't use but I'll have to wait to try this idea mentioned regarding line 2 above. Another thought I tossed around for a short bit was whether or not the files with the text offset from the left margine (tabbed) were an issue...
