When I try to play midi files the G-Dec 3 Thirty locks up and will not play or select songs. Footswitch right button locks on red and will also not stop or start song.

Here is what I am doing:
1. I put a blank SDHC 8 gb SanDisk card into G Dec. G Dec formats it and puts folders on disk.
2. I put formated disk into computer and drag midi files into the midi folder
3. put disk back into G Dec and it might play one of them and then locks up
4. I have to shut down the amp and remove the card.
5. When I power back up the preloaded tracks play as they should
6. The wav and mp3 files on the disk also play fine
7. The midi files play fine on the computer from the formated G Dec disk

I also formated another new 8gb disk and only put midi files on the disk in the midi folder and the same thing happened. I had about 25 songs(these are the midi files I am working with) in my old GDec 30 that I want to play on the new amp.

I tried another appproach:
1, Opened up another new 8gb card, put it in amp and the amp formated it.
2. I opened up Fuse and put the midi files from my computer hard drive into the fuse library by the add to library routine.
3. I right clicked each file one at a time and sent it to sd card which was in amp. All songs were installed on sd card in amp
4. I could scroll through all of the songs on the amp. Once I tried to play one the amp locked up again.
5. turned amp off, took out sd card
6. turned amp back on and put sd card in computer. I opened up the midi folder and played each song. The amp actually played the songs via the computer.

Midi files can be type 0 or type 1. Does this make a difference to G Dec?
Are there any character or number of charactors that is specific to G Dec. I have two computers that play the files correctly.

I do not know what else to do. Please advise!!!

Hey Jaydkay,

Is it possible for you to contact us here at 480-596-7195? I'd like to go over a few things with you. I'm thinking that there could be a problem with either your amp or the MIDI files you are using. If you can't call, would you mind sending a few of your MIDI files to TSL@fender.com? This would aid us in getting this issue resolved.

Loren,

Files sent at 12:30PM Eastern to your attention. These files are really important to me in that these were the files I used for years on the G Dec 30 to practice and play with. I tried to call, but your call volume is such that a recording says to call back later.

I, too, have had a lot of trouble trying to get my original 200+ MIDI backing tracks to play in the new 3 Thirty amps. I've tried formatting them in several different ways and sourcing them through different programs, but in the end the results are very unsatisfactory. Type 1 or 0 seems to make no difference as some files play, but heaven forbid you try to jump from one track to the next while they are playing - instant lock-up!

In the end I decided to just give up on the MIDI files as MIDI files, so I set about recording all of them from the G-DEC 30 to another computer using CuBase software and a Lexicon Lambda interface. It is hugely time consuming, but once I get the tracks recorded I can tweak the EQ, leave or delete click intros, etc.

It takes more memory, of course, but I finally decided to do all my conversions to Wave files, skipping even mp3 files, just to make sure I got the best possible sound for the backing tracks through the 3 Thirty. An 8G SD card will hold about 300 backing tracks in Wave format, enough for 20 live sets.

Feedback on my post;I am the originator of this thread. I sent a batch of files to fender. They converted the files that happened to be type 1 to type 0 and the files loaded and played. Some of my files played and some locked up the amp. The ones that played were type 0.

I opened up Jammer (free program used with the old G Dec 30) and converted all of the midi's to type zero. I now have the files that I originally had as songs in the G Dec 30 (songs had to be in midi format for the 30) on an SD and they play with out a problem in the G Dec 3. It is nice to have the songs I have been playing all of these years on the 3.

Type 1 locked up my amp and I had to restart it to get it to work. According to Fender the software is supposed to work with type 1 also. It has been given to engineering to work on. According to Fender Customer Support the type 1's also locked up their amp.

Moral to story: Convert all midi files to Type 0 !!!

jaydkay:

Thanks for the update. I was wondering if that was the problem. It is good to know just in case I encounter the same problem in the future.
