I'm considering using a tie dye like pattern to replace the standard Fender Grillcloth on my amp (don't ask me why...but I was flashing back on a Sons of Champlin concert circa '70's where Bill Champlin & Terry Haggerty both had tie dye amp fronts!).

However, when I spoke with my dealer/tech, he said the whole frame assembly w/grillcloth wasn't available (due to people pirating Fender parts!) AND that using a different grillcloth/fabric may alter the sound in a negative way.

Any thoughts on the subject?

Why mess with a good thing :?:

I think your dealer is probably correct about it affecting the sound.

I think it's total nonsense. You can make your own baffle and cover it. It's a piece of pressboard with a hole in it. It ain't rocket science unless fender glued it in.

When I first read your post, I thought that it was a terrible idea. That is until I saw the photo in the link from 63supro. I LIKE IT AND NOW I WANT ONE! Let us know how it turns out for you.

It's grillcloth, it's made to cover speakers. LOL I'd get a new tech.
