I tried to test out a G-DEC 3 Fifteen at Guitar Center this weekend, and couldn't get it to play band tracks or turn off effects. I had read through the manual I printed from online, but couldn't figure the thing out. I was ready to buy a 30-watter, but didn't see one and was discouraged by how counter-intuitive the amp was.

Can someone clue me in to what I did wrong (besides not ask for help)?

bclarke675:

It is entirely possible that the G-Dec you tried out at Guiter Denter had been damaged. We have probably all seen people who abuse the gear there just because they can. The first one that I tested, someone had taken the time to change ALL of the presets to Maximum Gain/Distortion.

Firstly, try turning the machine off and then back on again. I suggest that because when it starts up, it will go to the main menu so that you don't have to worry about where you are in the menus. After the amp comes to the main menu, you can start the band track by pressing the START/STOP button.

You can change the band track by pressing the BAND button (below the screen). This button should have the word Band just above it. After pressing the band button, you have to press the File button. From there you turn the scroll wheel to select the band track that you want to play and again press the START/STOP button.

I hope that you give the amp another try. I too was discouraged by how the first one I tried out sounded. After restoring the machine to its default settings (pretty easy to do), I ended up buying the G-Dec 3 30 watt version. I did not get a chance to compare it to the 15 watt model but I know the 30 watt version sounds good to me.

Also, there is an Advanced Owners manual on the web site that goes into more detail.

I may try again. I'm sure I had to turn the G-DEC 3 Fifteen on before I tried it, but it may have been on & messed up. Thanks for the link to the advanced manual. It's different and more explanatory than the one I printed before. I definitely want the Thirty if they have it, and I can figure it out.

Thanks again!

I went back to Guitar Center last night and played with the G-DEC 3 Fifteen again. This time, everything worked as it was supposed to, and it sounded great...loved jamming to some of the backing tracks. So...I bought the Thirty with my birthday money! Thanks for the help and suggestions! I can't wait to create some of my own presets!

I think that you will be very happy with the amp Bob. I know I like it a lot better than my VOX.

I still think I prefer my Vox for gigging, but the G-DEC 3 has a great sound, and very powerful editing for lots of variables. I haven't been able to crank the G-DEC 3 yet to compare, but it seems very responsive to my controls on my guitar (volume & tone), which my Line 6 JM4 Looper isn't. FUSE is a wonder to use, and sharing couldn't be easier!

Thanks again for encouraging me to check out the G-DEC 3 again!
