So I have owned 60's Fender amps, modded tube amps and pedals but I am always up to try an amp modeler. I started with Digitechs, still have my GNX4 and now the GDEC 3 30. How do other tone hounds feel about what you are getting out of the GDEC? My 30 was getting killed on stage by our lead players 30 watt tube Carr amp. I have been searching out a 30 watt tube amp to keep up but I'm thinking about getting another 400 watt powered PA speaker so I can utilize the stereo out of the GDEC 30. I bet it would sound pretty awesome and save me major bucks.
Are you guys happy?
Do we have folks out there making even better presets as I type that I don't know about?
Do you think the tones your are getting are close to the actual thing?
Would you gig with your GDEC?
Any feedback is good!

I like the tones so far, but I need to play more to really compare to my Vox AD60VTX. At this point, until I get more comfortable with programming the presets and saving them, I probably wouldn't gig with the Thirty.

After jamming during lunch, I'm changing my mind about gigging the Thirty. It was easy to do what I wanted, even without a footpedal. I could probably create 3 tones to cover most of what I do and assign them to QA1, QA2 & QA3!

Also, now that I was able to jam at volume (plenty for what I do), the tone is as good or better than my Vox, which I can't believe for an all-digital amp!

Thank you FENDER!!!

I pre-ordered two of these amps and I'll definitely hang onto them (and the other 24 amps I own), but I'm not a big fan of the tones that came with the amp - actually prefer the tones (and backing tracks) of the old G-DEC 30. I like a good overdrive as much as anyone, but do we need 80 of them on this amp? So far I have been using the amp mainly to play out and handle my backing tracks - it's good to be able to carry 400-500 songs with me.

When I get the time... I will likely remove almost all of the original tones loaded in this amp and install a wide range of clean tones, keeping maybe 5-10 decent overdriven tones. That's where I'm at.

+1 on replacing heavy tones with clean & slightly-overdriven tones! That's what's great about this amp. You can make it whatever you want it to be![/b]

Each time I play the amp I make a note of the preset I really like from that session. I have a handful right now and one or two that I could play all the time. I"m hoping when guys like you start creating your presets you will upload them.

I had my first chance to play the amp under ideal conditions, as well as at volume, and found some presets I really like as is. However, I'm still trying to tweak my Boston preset, as it doesn't come close the sound I've dialed in on my Vox. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but the fixed wah effect is the one I'm having trouble with. No matter where I set the controls, the amp sounds the same. I'm trying to get that mid-choke sound (a little honky), that characterizes "Don't Look Back"-era Boston. Once I get that dialed in, I'll upload it for all to enjoy.

Have fun!
Bob

I tried a BOSS ME-70 while my G-Dec is getting fixed (headphones socket) and it made me sooooo want the G-Dec back quick! The 70 was a heap of ... well, you know... noisy with any hints of drive, digital, sterile, and playing along with aux in MP3's was a joke... the mix was appalling.

So, to answer OP's question, yes I'm happy with my G-Dec's tone, both with and without the backing tracks, and both with and without headphones.

I just got a new "15" yesterday. I absolutely love this little amp. The options seem endless. I have always been of the opinion that tubes were required to truly achieve the tone I need as a blues guitarist. It's clear that the level of amp modeling has come a long way. I think Fender has a true homerun with these amps. Like the Cyber Twin which really nails the tone of a variety of amps, so does the GDEC3. Well done Fender!
