Hello,

Anyone from Fender home today? I posted a question this a.m. about being (or not being) able to scroll through presets (not just the three assigned ones) with the footswitch.

Is this possible? If so, can you select one outside the three assigned?
Thanks

When you are in preset mode you can scroll up and down through the presets with the ULT-4 footswitch.

Thanks... how do you differentiate between a preset and a band track? Or are they the same thing as far as the foot switch is concerned?

Because presets have a band track associated with them, in a way the answer is yes and no. In other words the foot switch is able to scroll up and down through presets, and then also start the associated band track. So in that sense yes they are the same thing.

However, if you put the amp in Quick Access mode then you are able to scroll through the band tracks on the amp and/or SD card using the footswitch. When doing this only the band track changes and the amp preset stays the same. So in that sense no the footswitch does not see them as the same.

Regarding how the footswitch interacts with presets vs. band tracks, I'll try to explain as best I can.

The footswitch has three different modes of operation.
On the footswitch, there are 3 LEDs. Each represents which mode the footswitch is in. Red, Green & Amber are the LED colors for Footswitch Modes 1, 2 & 3. The switch on the far left changes the modes. In any mode, if you hold down button 1 (far left button) it will put the amp in tuner mode. Stepping on that switch again will bring it out of tuner mode.
http://www.sweetwater.com/images/items/1800/ULT4-xlarge.jpg

Red LED (Mode 1): In this footswitch mode the button 2, 3 & 4 give you instant access to whatever amp presets you have assigned to the QA 1, 2 & 3 buttons on the amp.

Green LED (Mode 2): In this footswitch mode, when the amp is in "preset mode" the button 2 & 3 give you the ability to scroll up and down through the amps presets and button 4 acts to start and stop the associated band track. The bad thing is, that as long as the amp is in preset mode, if you change footswitch mode to Mode 1, (RED LED) to access your QA settings, if you have a band track playing it will stop the band track (and it might even start the band track associated with the preset you changed to if I remember right.) This to me is not a good thing. It essentially makes it impossible to be able to change amp presets during a band track using the footswitch.

When the amp is in "Quick Access" mode, button 2 & 3 give you the ability to scroll up and down through the band tracks in the amp and on the SD card and button 4 allows you to start and stop the band track. Unlike when the amp is in preset mode, you are able to change the footswitch to Mode 1 (RED LED) and then you can access the QA 1, 2 & 3 presets without interrupting the band track. This is what I use most. Just make sure you change the footswitch mode from Mode 2 (Green LED) to Mode 1 (Red LED) before you try to change QA presets or else you will still be in the mode to scroll up or down through the band tracks or to stop the band track which is playing. This is a disaster in the middle of a song.

Amber LED (Mode 3): This is the mode when working with the phrase sampling features. I have not experimented with this yet so I have nothing to offer here other than to say that button 2 is Play, Button 3 is Record and Button 4 is Overdub.

I hope this helps you to better understand the way the footswitch and its modes interact with the amp in each of its "Preset Mode" and "Quick Access Mode".

Take care,

Bob[/url]

Thanks, that makes it much easier to understand!
BTW, I just posted a note to your band website regarding your extensive use of the G-DEC series. If you get a moment, would you check it out and then get back to me?
Thanks again for the help.

Hey Bob, one more question, if I may. What is the process of going between the preset mode and the band mode on the 3-30?
Thank You

To the left of the display on the front there are three white buttons. One of them is labeled "Quick Access". Push that button and it changes the amp mode from "Preset Mode" to "Quick Access Mode".

No Problem.

Hi , Is there anyway to use the ULT-4 footswitch as a tap tempo for the delays or other modulation settings?

Thanks

Hey Guys,

Lance- I'm sorry we missed your post. Bob hit the nail on the head with his responses though.

Seth- Unfortunately, the foot switch can't be used for the tap tempo feature.

This explained almost everything, except how to switch to mode 3. Is my foot switch broken, as it only toggles between mode 1 < red> and mode 2 < green>, I can't figure out how to get it to mode 3.

Hey Bob,

The foot switch should go into Mode 3 as long as you are not in the Quick Access screen on the amp. Mode 3 controls the Phrase Sampler so it should be accessible while in most of the screens on the amp.

I bought this footswitch for my G-Dec 3 30 about 4 days ago and now every time I hit the left hand (mode) button, it changes to 'tuner' despite the fact I do not hold the button down at all. :( It's been working fine for 3 days and now I cannot change modes because it immediately goes to tuner mode. Is this a serious problem or have I just got it stuck on a weird selected programe? Thanks!

Hey sexriffsidery,

Verify that you have the latest firmware on the amp. It does sound like there could be an issue with that footswitch though. Maybe a stuck sensor on that switch.

Hi loren, my new footswitch arrived today and it dont seem to work when plug in. The screen reads u-1, no buttons seem to work at all. Any guess it is a faulty switch. Thanks!

Hey theseus,

You should verify the amp's firmware version as well. To determine if it's a hardware problem, try taking the footswitch to a local dealer and plugging it up to one of their amps.
