I'm curious to know if the G-DEC3 30 watt is supposed to be hot on the panel behind the Band Level and Volume knobs. Mine runs around 110 F. from as near as I can tell with my wife's candy thermometer. I know that it's hot to the touch.

Hi Nynavic,

I hope you are well. The temperature you are reporting is within specification. These amps are very carefully tested at all stages of manufacture. And thus, need to conform to current safety standards, as well as Fender's design requirements.

Thanks for your inquiry. Take care.

Thanks Alan,
I was just wondering if the heat from that panel might have been a possible contributing cause of the headphone jack not wanting to reengage the speaker when I unplug the headphones.

Hi Vic,

I am not aware of any connection between any heat generated at that location on the amp, and connectivity with the headphone jack. But do send us an email, and let us know how things go when you take your amp in (tomorrow?). Talk to you soon.

Mine is barely warm to the touch, i don't know how you'd measure the temp with a candy therm., i can't see it being very accurate. but if it is "hot" to the touch, you must have a problem. I've left mine on for several hours at a time and it never gets more than just slightly warm.

As reported in another post yesterday, the heat issue has happened on all 3 of the G-DEC 3's that I've had so far and now the amp won't start until the front panel actually gets warm. 2 days ago it took 40 minutes. Yesterday it took an hour and ten minutes before the amp would actually work. So the heat is causing a problem...pure and simple.

Hi Nynavic,
I gather that you're an engineering tech from a previous post, so you've probably checked this out, but....how is the electrical supply in your home? Any surges? Transients?
In my former life I had a Laboratory with sophisticated instrumentation and the power supplied to the Lab was critical.
I also used to live in the country and found that (in one location) the surges/transients on the mains were causing problems with some of my electrical equipment.
just a thought.....
Best,
Alex
