Hi ...

Somewhere along the road of a thousand crashes with FUSE, I think my disk drive took a hit. I'm using Windows 7 and when I mount the USB to go to the amp's drive, I get a warning that I should "Scan and Repair" the disk. I earlier got the same warning on the SD Card. I told it to "go ahead" and fix it and it crashed the card ... had to go back and get another one. The way it "formats" itself, it is not recognized by a laptop or other card reader. So Best Buy was kind enough to give me a new one for the ruined one.

So I'm guessing the "fix errors" in Windows 7 does not fix a flash drive and could possibly destroy it. Is there any way to "fix" what ever errors Windows 7 is seeing? I don't want to push the "fix it" button and lose the flash in the amp!

Hello,

Windows is telling you that it doesn't like what it sees on the card and it wants to "fix" it. The problem is that it wants to "fix" it as a Windows file system removable disk. It's not. It's a G-DEC 3 disk. Windows does this with any drive that it has a problem with. While we haven't seen it "fry" an SD card here, it still may be a good idea to choose not to "fix" next time.

Loren, (now 3 for 3!) That explains it. But we might want to be telling folks when they see that "error" message from Windows, that they should ignore it not not press the button like I did. $42 went up in a little tiny puff of blue smoke. When we see that error (and using Windows), it is a natural reaction to scan and repair ... sort of a non-thinking reaction ... and it works. We need to warn folks when they see this NOT to repair, perhaps that is the value of our little thread here.

Also you are telling me at the same time, that my G-DEC disk is probably just fine, Windows just doesn't know it. (now you are 4 for 4)! :-)
