After using the headphones the speaker often refuses to reengage. So I'm taking the GDEC3 in to have it looked at by a service tech on the 27th.

I'd like to have the faulty headphone jack on this GDEC repaired so I can keep all of my settings, but the tech told me it may take a long time to order the parts for a new amp like the GDEC3.

If the amp is relpaced will I lose all of my preset configurations...which took many, many hours to adjust for backing tracks on the SD card? Is the Fuse program on my computer capable of saving my preset amp settings and applying them to a new GDEC3 or will a new GDEC3 apply the factory presets to the Fuse program?

Yes, fuse specifically has a backup command to save all your settings.
You can also use the export-all command on the amp to save all the presets to your SD card (that does not save the backing tracks).

Thank you Dave
I found the 'export all presets' in the utility menu and saved them to the SD card. You just saved me a lot of work...much appreciated.

I had this same issue with mine and my local store replaced the amp rather than fixing it. Luckily though I didn't have a whole bunch of stuff to save so I just started from scratch.....I wonder if this is a faulty batch of headphone jacks or a software glitch? The one thing I make sure to do now is to not leave the headphones in after I finish playing. It is a pain in the butt though but Fender treated me excellent so I'm really happy about that! So happy in fact that I'm going to go buy a new telecaster this week!!

Hi Nynavic,

I wanted to chime in and ask that you keep in touch with us here in the TSL regrading your amp. Please let us know how things go with the service tech on your end. We will be happy to assist you in whatever way we can from our end as well. I'll look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

Hi Alan
Thanks, I'll be taking the amp in to the service tech on the 27th, and when I get back home on the 28th, I'll let you know how it went.
From what they told me on the phone they're all sold out of the G-DEC3 30 watt amps but have more on order, so I don't know what will happen at this point.
Sincerely
Vic

How did it go? I hope everything went well. I have only had my G-Dec 3 for a few days and I like it a lot better than my VOX AD50VT. It makes me want to practice more......

They copied my receipt and gathered the information that they needed and said that when the new G-DEC amps arrive they will exchange it for me. So hopefully they'll arrive before my next trip into town around the end of June or early July.

In the meantime I bought a little 'Fender Frontman 15R' to use with headphones when I need to. But the G-DEC really spoils a person for using anything else...especially after you customize the settings to your own taste.

I am glad to hear that Fender takes such good care of their customers.

I also did almost the same thing as you and ordered Fender Frontman 25R for taking on trips. My wife loves to take trips 2-3 weekends a month just so that she can take photographs of people and places. I intend to take the 25R with me so that I can play in the hotels

I'm afraid the problems with headphone jacks is not going to go away. The female jack is very cheap plastic soldered onto the circuit board. If you look sideways at it it will break. I've actually bought a set of wireless phones so that I don't have to worry about breakage from even the slightest tug on a cord. If it weren't for this 2 cent piece of garbage I'd be mucho happy with the amp. I'm on my second replacement due to this under-engineering. What a pain!

Has anyone tried spraying electronics cleaner into the headphone jack and plugging/unplugging the headphones 10+ times? This is a fix for a similar problem with Vox amps that I picked up on their site. Maybe it will save a lot of warranty replacements for Fender?

bclarke675:

I have written VOX several times about the terribly low headphone volume of my VOX AD50VT and that is the solution that they gave me. It probably works for a stuck jack but I am not sure. It did not help my volume problem though. I fixed that by buying the G-DEC!

I have one of the old AD60VTX amps, and other than a bad high input jack, it has worked well. It's in the shop now having that jack fixed, as well as a footswitch jack I damaged at practice. The tech is replacing the worn switching buttons as well. I told him to check all the solder joints, since they seem to be a problem after some time with these amps (mine was purchased used over ebay).

I'm now looking at getting a G-DEC 3 Thirty in addition to practice with when the band can't get together. The idea of the FUSE interface is interesting.

Just thought my other post might help with the headphone jack problem in the G-DEC 3s.

The Fuse interface is nice! Prior to buying the G-DEC, I had been playing around with the Fender Amplitube software using the included Stealthplug that came with that particular package. The Amplitube was great on the go with my Macbook. I haven't tried the Amplitube with the G-DEC yet though.

Hi Alan

Here's another customer with the same problem, just discovered on my 2 week old G-Dec 3 30.

Frankly, I think your response to this thread is unacceptable. (Edit: I got this wrong - see later post.)

What I would have liked you guys at Fender to do, was to admit that there is clearly a problem with a cheap jack socket and that you will authorise an upgrade / repair under warranty, providing dealers with the necessary specifications for the upgrade.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this.
