Hey I admit it: I'm a beginner and have difficulty determining correct amp settings when playing around on my guitar.

Is there somewhere I can go that will give recommended amp settings for various songs? For example, I'm looking for amp settings to play "Are You Gonna Go My Way" by Lenny Kravitz. I just cannot seem to get it quite right. Any suggestions?

Let me say up front that I do not have "Are you gonna go my way" settings in this post. However...

As you may know a lot of guitar magazines are including amp and effects settings along with the tablature. "Total Guitar" and "Guitar Techniques" have good discussions on tone settings for specific songs or artists. I remember Guitar Techniques had some general tone settings advice for Lenny Kravitz but I would have to try and find the back issue.

"Guitar Edge" links you to specific Boss pedals for duplicating songs at <http://www.bossus.com/go/tone/> Many of the pedals used are for old Fender amps. If you roll over the pictures you get a detailed explanation of what Paul Hanson (the tech) was trying for. The tone index gives you songs from past editions. (I couldn't see Lenny Kravitz)

You might also find it helpful to go to mygdec.com. There is a patch list on the site listing user presets for the original GDEC series which is a good starting point for GDEC 3 settings. The document "GDEC Going Deep" by Robert Sharp also has a great discussion on how to systematically find a tone.

I assume you have also googled "Kravitz amp settings". There are a lot of modeling amps and forums out there. You can get some good starting points just by looking at what amp is being modelled and the suggested tone settings and effects used.

Thanks. I'll give those a try.
