First off, you should tell everybody up front that the new version of Fuse won't install in Vista until you turn off UAC (User Account Control). The default for Vista is UAC-ON. So this is a real problem for many folks.

Second Fuse 1.1.2 crashes about every 5-10 minutes on my Vista PC. When I mentioned this in another G-DEC 3 forum, guys chimed in with, "Oh yeah, sure, it crashes on mine too!" As if everybody knew about it.

Is this instability in Vista going to be corrected in future revs? Right now as it is it renders Fuse damaged goods. It works fine as long as it runs, but it would appear to be quite unstable.

I run a plain vanilla HP Athlon 64 dual core 2.8 with 3gb and all the latest Vista updates. None of my other apps crash. Only Fuse.

Looks like there's a separate Fuse forum now, I'll re-post over there.

From the looks of things over at the Fuse forum, this crashing in Vista is pretty common. Which in a way is good, it means the problem will be addressed and debugged in future revs.

I have found the same probem with Fender Fuse...it works fine if I bypass the program by downloading directly to my SD card and then putting the SD card into the G-DEC. If I try to use the Fuse program to do much of anything it locks up and won't shut down unless I use Task Manager to shut it down.

As I mentioned in the 'No Sound' thread the speaker on the G-DEC refuses to work when headphones are unplugged...it takes a lot to try and make it work again...and sometimes the speaker stops even when the headphones haven't been used for awhile.

I've also been in contact with Ableton Live and even after getting the authorization code their program won't work, it's certainly not user friendly, so I gave up and downloaded Power Sound Editor for free and it works fine.

The Fender Amplitude produces a horrendous distorted noise and I can't get any decent sound out of it at all, either from my guitar or from files on my PC. So I'm not going to bother trying to use it anymore.

Most of the advertised features have been a real disappointment so far, but the G-DEC does record well onto my PC using the USB port.

Make sure you are pluging the USB cable directly into the USB port on the computer and that you are not using a USB Hub. The documentation specifically states not to use a Hub.

Not sure if that is the issue either of you are running into, but I thought it was worth mentioning just in case.

Take care,

Hey Guys,

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with Fender FUSE and Vista. Are you using Vista Service Pack 1 or later by any chance? If not, that would explain some of the crashes. We are aware of the issues and are working on them as I type this. Is there a specific action that causes FUSE to crash such as uploading presets or editing preset information? Any info you can give us will be extremely useful in resolving this issue.

Nynavic, I just saw your post in the other forum regarding no sound. I would recommend just "exercising" the headphone jack by inserting and removing the headphone plug 15 or 20 times. This should solve the problem. If not, please give us a call at 480-596-7195 and we will be happy to assist you.

Thanks,
Loren

I'm using SP2, are we supposed to be reverting back to SP1?

My apologies. I meant SP1 or later. Vista SP2 is fine.

I'm also running Service Pack 2 and Alan from Tech Support walked me through the Fuse update this afternoon, but it still did an unexpected shut down afterwards when I tried to make an adjustment to one of the amp settings.

Alan is still working on trying to get Ableton to work on my computer, but he did help me get the ASIO driver installed to run Aplitube.

Truthfully I've never seen such excellent Customer Service with any company that I've ever dealt with. My hat is really off to you guys. Thank you!

Hello Guys,

Can you give me specific information on the Fender FUSE crashes such as what you were doing (i.e. uploading a preset) and any error messages that you received? I apologize for needing more info but we are unable to frequently reproduce the crashes that you guys are experiencing with Vista.

Also, we recommend that User Account Control be turned off and that the G-DEC 3 be connected directly to the computer and not through a USB hub. To Turn off User Account Control:
Open up Control Panel, and type in “UAC” into the search box. You’ll see a link for “Turn User Account Control on or off”
On the next screen you should uncheck the box for “Use User Account Control”, and then click on the OK button. You’ll need to reboot your computer before the changes take effect.

We appreciate your help in tracking down this issue.

Thanks,
Loren

Hi Loren

I followed your instructions and turned off User Account Control, then tried to make some changes in the Fuse program to an amp setting. It crashed again with the message: "There has been an unknown error communicating with the device. Fender Fuse will shut down. Please power cycle the G-DEC3 amplifier."

So I turned the User Account Control back on becaue that's not the reason for the crash.

The setting that I tried to make changes to was a factory preset with the factory band track Funk Panst A.wav...so it wasn't even a band track from my SD card.

Good luck trying to track down the problem...I'm no computer geek, so I can't be of much help on this end, but I will do my best.

Vic

The UAC defeat in Vista is critical in allowing your PC to install the new Fuse software. It's a tricky one because you won't get a clear error message when it won't install, just something about "Cannot write new data" or something.

After I defeated UAC it loaded fine.

I can usually make a few changes before a crash happens, and sometimes I can make a lot of changes and not have any problem. It seems to be intermittent...or has a mind of its own.

The other problem or it may be related...when I try to shut down Fuse, it often sits there and doesn't respond (Not Responding), so I have to open Task Manager to shut it down and clear the screen. Task Manager shows Fuse using anywhere from 85 to 95% of the Computer, while less than half the RAM is in use. If that means anything.
