Hi -- I own Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and '57 Custom Deluxe amps.
Recently, I bought (and gave away) the G-DEC Jr. A classic look, convenient size and fun for tiny, limited practice amp.

Then I tried a G-DEC (15W with 8" speaker) -- the old model -- and was impressed. The tube amps require a lot of effects pedal changes. But, again, G-DEC tone could be improved with some mods.

Now I am considering replacing the old G-DEC with "3" model and wondering if anyone can help me with these questions:

!. Does the new G-DEC 3 15W have all the same preset amps,
effects and backing tracks PLUS artist-recorded backing tracks, or did
some things get removed?

2: Does the larger 10" speaker on G-DEC 3 30 make a significant quality difference in tone or is it just louder than 8" speaker.

Thanks,

Lance

Hay lance...

You and I are in the same sirtuation. I will be paying attention to this posting for my own information. I bought my Fender G-DEC 15 watt amp ( not the "3" model ) last week. I guess that's what happens when you buy elecrtonic stuff when it's on sale... you get stuck with obsolete equipment...!!! But I don't mind... it will be good enough for me anyway but I will like to learn from this about what I am missing by not having the "3" model. I wouldn't need 30 watts for what I use it for here at home.

Hi "Maso" -- Right -- we'll both hope Fender or fan reads questions. But the old model is not obsolete at all. BTW, I found that dialing down the levels on amp gain, etc. and effects helps the toe quite a bit. I also may replace the generic speaker. It is a very entertaining piece of equip -- and maybe MORE of everything is not necessary. Onward and upward -- Lance

Hey Guys,

The G-DEC 3 includes a totally redesigned sound engine with all new amp models and Band Tracks. The new Band Tracks are in WAV format but MP3's and MIDI files can also be used. While the amp doesn't contain the same MIDI backing tracks as the previous models, those MIDI files can be downloaded at the link below.

In short, this amp does everything the previous models could do, and more.

As far as the speaker goes, most of the customers I've talked to really like the 10" speaker and tweeter over the 8" speaker because of the way Band Tracks sound through them. I haven't heard much about a big difference in guitar tone though, other than the fact that you can crank up the volume on the Thirty and still get really clean sound.
I hope this helps.

Loren

Thanks Loren -- Appreciate your note. I meant to say almost a year ago.

In the meantime, I got used to the superb '57 Deluxe Tweed amp; sold my Deluxe Reverb (too much volume to get sweet break up tones) and the DEC (great tools, but ltd tone). To each his own -- less to fool with is better for now.
