Hi,

I just got my new G-DEC 30 a few days ago. Everything was ok at first. Drum patterns and example songs worked and I heard the sound from the speaker. Then I downloaded my own MIDI files to the unit. That also was ok. But then suddenly something is wrong, I cannot get any drum pattern or song out of the speaker. JAMMER Songmaker 5 gets the MIDI events from G-DEC 30 and can play the songs, but why cannot I hear the sound from the speaker itself. I've tried to adjust backing level, but it doesn't help. The guitar sound is fine so the speaker works ok. I resetted the unit to factory settings. It didn't help. Does anyone know what's going on with my G-DEC 30. Firmware version is 1.04.00.

Tommi, if the MIDI is making its way back to the PC during playback there are a couple of things that could be going on. Try changing the MIDI control setting(in util mode) to synth and wait 5 seconds. Turn the power off, wait another second or two, and then turn the amp back on. If that doesn't fix the problem there may be something special in the MIDI file causing a problem or there could be a hardware issue. If the procedure above does not fix the problem please contact customer service. Thanks,

Brian, I did what you suggested and had some odd results. First I got sound out of the speaker, but MIDI signal was also sent to my PC. I don't know if that should happen or not. Anyway, I again downloaded JAMMER demo song to my amp and after that I couldn't get any song or drum pattern sounds out of the speaker. Not even after doing the same thing as you suggested, two times. Earlier when I did some initial tests with my amp, I noticed that some MIDI samples could not keep the tempo. Also a couple of times song hanged to play just one tune and did not go forward. I had to turn off the amp. I decided to return my unit to the dealer for replacement or repair. I really like the concept of G-DEC 30, so I'd like to have a functioning amp.

Anyway, thanks for the tips,

/Tommi

Tommi,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. It sounds like most of the issues you were having are hardware issues but there may have also been some MIDI issues which are adding to the confusion.

The MIDI control setting in utility mode allows you to select whether MIDI data on channel 16 will control the amp or synth. This option was designed to allow the G-DEC30 amp controls to be MIDI controlled (via embedded messages in MIDI songs or using a generic MIDI foot controller). By default this is set to "amp" which means all MIDI data on channel sixteen is routed to the amp controls instead of the synth. A full list of the program change/continuous controller #'s that are supported can be found in the G-DEC30 manual. If you are not doing any deep editing of MIDI files and embedding PC/CC messages to automate amp controls during MIDI playback I highly recommend changing this setting to "synth"(otherwise the amp could exhibit what would appear to be unexpected behavior). If you or anyone else needs a little more clarification on this just let me know. Thanks,

I double checked all the MIDI files that I tried to download to the amp and they did not use channel 16. So probably this is just some hardware fault in my unit.
