Why does my new Fender G-DEC 15 watt amp with serial number GP054461BR only give me a short 14 seconds of record time...? That's really not enough. Can I buy a part to install into it that will increase that...?

It seems to me that I ought to be able to increase that if I want to pay for it...? How 'bout it Fender...??? Hummm...?

Perhaps the software could be written so we record to an SD card and the only limitation would be how much space the SD card has. That would rock!

PS - I think 14 secs is for high quality. You can get more time if you set it to low quality.

I think the old GDEC is limited to 14 seconds which was then increased to 28(?) in the GDEC 30.

Pony up the cash for a GDEC 3 (Fifteen or Thirty) and you get "Recording in Low Resolution mode allows for a phrase recording time of 2 min and 20 sec, while High Resolution recording will allow you to record 35 sec of high quality audio."

I think I read in the manual you can overdub the loop repeatedly if you save to SD.

Well...

When I buy a camera, I can add memory to it if I buy a bigger chip... Why doesn't Fender use a simmilar idea for G-DEC's "record time"...?

What is an SD...??? and how do I do that...?

I'm not about to "pony up" for a G-DEC 3 model when I just brought the one I have now home from the Guitar Center a week ago. I guess that's what happens when you buy new technology stuff on sale...! It's obsolete as soon as you get it home... but that's okay with me. My only complaint is that the 14 seconds seems too small and I can't imagine why I shouldn't have the option of adding to that with a new bigger chip like I can do with the storage capacity of a digital camera... that should be the way for Fender to go and I just wanted to pass that along to their R&D people as an unsolicited buyer's suggestion.

How 'bout it Fender... huh...?! I'm a happy camper now... but make me a happier camper okay...???

By SD, I meant a Secure Digital flash memory card. In digital cameras these are the 'chips' you buy for added storage. The GDEC 3 has a slot for one to hold presets and backing tracks.

Not to be overly flippant but I think we forget that when the original GDEC (i.e. your model) came out ANY onboard looping function in an inexpensive amp was quite impressive. With each new iteration of the amp the loop has gotten longer and consumers have become more blase about it.

I think a looper on a budget amp is more like a zoom lens on a pocket digital camera. The zoom keeps getting better and more powerful with each new model at a given price point but you can't retrofit your old model (unless you bought a very expensive camera with detachable lenses).

However, you can 'upgrade' to way more loop time than you would ever need with stand alone full feature pedals: $200 should buy you a Boss RC-2 Loop Station or DigiTech's JamMan looper.

Thank you. $200.00 is a lot more than I would have expected.

I'm not sure what you are asking Fender to do. They have provided exactly what you are asking for in the new G-DEC 3 line. What more do you want from them? They aren't making the original G-DECs any more, so its too late to make changes to that.

They actually listened to suggestions from customers like you, and added most, if not all of the things people were asking for. Its up to you to decide whether you want to pay the extra money for the new features.

Guitar Center has a 30 day return policy. My suggestion would be to return the old G-DEC and get the new one. The new features, and the improvements in sound quality are well worth the extra cost IMO.
