I just yesterday bought my Fender G-DEC amp at 15 watts. I like it. I'm not a pro, I just want to use it to improve my playing at home. I will buy the cables to attach it to my Windows XP driven PC and see what I can learn from it about MIDI for my first time.

I am mostly a blues player so I will be programing it mostly for back beat driven sounds without the more modern Fx's to suit my tastes... and a few other things.

Any words of advice or encouragement here will be most welcome...!

At this time, I know next to nothing about MIDI. Can I sequence song progressions in some kind of software in my PC and then play that though my G-DEC at some pre set tempo and then play along with it...? That's what I want to do.

My G-DEC will be mostly a learning and practacing device to me if I am doing it right.

Hey there Maso. The GDEC is a cool and fun amp. I have the GDEC 30 and just bought a GDEC 3 30. I love them both. The amps are so much fun in giving you ability to play with band tracks and practice. I think of MIDI as if it is a 16 track digital mixer. Only digital events instead of audio.

I'd recommend using JAMMER SONGMAKER (it should have came with your amp i think). It's really good MIDI mixing software. Simple and easy to use. For more advanced projects with audio files combined with MIDI, I like Cakewalk Sonar. (Just a personal preference.)

You can download hundreds of good quality, free MIDI backing tracks off the internet.

As for the cable from USB to MIDI. I highly recommend the M-Audio UNO MIDI. I bought a cheap one from Amazon and it didn't work. Then I bought a Cakewalk/Roland UMG-1. It will stream MIDI fine, but will not transfer song files or update the amp firmware. So, I ended up (Third time is a charm) with a M-Audio UNO and it works great.

Hope maybe this info will help a little. Welcome to GDEC world!

What good advice...! I'm gonna' take all that to the bank...! Thank you.

I am wondering if the amp will work with my "Guitar Pro V.5" software http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.php as a midi input...? Anybody know...?

I don't think that I got the Jammer Songmaster with my purchase... was I supposed to...? I didn't get a CD Rom of any kind. There were no G-DEC's left in the store room so I took the demonstrater that was on display, it was on sale too. If I'm entitled to that, then I want it...!

Welcome to G-DEC World. No software came with the original G-DEC. You have to go to Fender's web site, check into Support, then Downloads and there you will find a link to the FREE Jammer SongMaker 5. Only 5 supports direct transfer of MIDI tracks to the G-DEC and like I said, it's free. I've used Jammer to create a lot of MIDI backing tracks and it's awesome for editing and modifying MIDI files you can find online.

Have fun!

Man... You guys are GREAT...!!!

Thank you all... again.

Another question, if you don't mind. Will the Fender FUSE software work with my 15 watt G-DEC...? This one is not the newer G-DEC 3 model. I still have not quite figured out what the FUSE program can do for me yet but I will catch on to it eventually. Right now I am just a little overwhelmed with new toys to play with.

I'll put it this way...
In the words of the great Big Joe Turner:

I'm like a Mississippi bull frog...
Sittin' on a hollow stump...
I got so many wimmin...
Do'know which way t'jump...!!!

:D  :?

Try this link. I think this is where I downloaded the full version from. You register your product and then you can download the full version.

Okay Randy buddie...

I took your advice and got the MIDISPORT Uno 1 In/1 Out Class-Compliant USB-to-MIDI Interface; Part # S/N:44905728954 at the Guitar Center for about $40.00. But the software drivers get me a alert saying that it night screw up my 'puter that runs on Windows XP, SP 3. I installed it anyway. Did I do good...???

I don't know if my downloaded MIDISPORT Uno drivers for my Windows XP - SP3 are working correctly. My Control Panels Sound and Audio, Tab: Audio tells me that I have RealTek HT Output and Input plus my default device is MicroSoft GS Wavetable Synth.

What's wrong here...?

Any advice on this will be taken seriously because I really meant it when I said that I know next to nothing about MIDI stuff. I haven't really got it set up yet but I am paging through the on line user's guide.

Maso, you are definitely travelling down the right road. The pic of the UNO looks exactly like the one I have. Only difference in our setup that I can see is that I'm running XP with SP2 instead of 3. Hopefully not a big difference.

Sounds like you got the driver installed for windows.
Check to make sure the Uno is pulsing green in the USB light. It that light is pulsing green... that's a good sign that the UNO is ready to go..

Try loading Jammer and then go into the SETTINGS menu.. Select the Midi devices option and make sure that input ports are set to your UNO and the UNO is set as the first Ouput port. Use the Order Output Ports to move it to the top of the list if needed. Then hit the OK button.

If your driver indeed installed as it should have in windows, you should be able to use Jammer's File - Open menu to load a midi file and then hit play and stream it to the Gdec once you have physically connected the cables.

Hope this helps,
Randy

Okay... This is about to drive me crazy.

I don't have a pulsating green light, so I will go back to the www.m-audio.com web site and try to download the driver again.

I have:

Windows XP Home edition
Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_3_gdr.100216-1514 : Service Pack 3)

Then I will do as you say with the "Jammer" settings.

But... The problem seems to have something to do with this. When I download the driver I get an alert from Microsoft telling me that this driver might cause problems with my computer and do I want to prodcede with my download anyway...

WHAT'S UP WITH THAT...!!!

So... I downloaded it anyway...TWICE... and now I will try it again.

I don't get it. I will be back here again a little later with a more detailed look at that alert because this time I will take notes.

I'll be back again... soon.

I'm in trouble here.

I decided to re-install the driver from my disk instead of the Internet and again I get that same alert. You might as well see that for yourself so here is what it says:
Quote:

The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatability with Windows XP (Tell me why this is important)

Continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabalize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the software vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing.

Then there is a button to: "Continue Anyway" or "STOP Installation"

Note that the same alert will appear if I download this from the Internet. Also... I still do not have a pulsating green light on the USB cable device, so I doubt if there is any reason for me to open the "Jammer" just yet.

It look like I am going to have to un-install the driver and just forget about connecting my G-DEC to my computer and that sux...!

So basically what the error is saying is that the driver software hasn't been certified by Microsoft. I've seen this kind of warning many times on installs that turn out successful.

So if you continue the install do you ever see a dialog box saying the windows system files have been changed - insert the windows CD? If so, you will want to make sure to hit the cancel option button and let the files that the driver has installed stay.. Otherwise windows will replace them with original system files and the driver wont' work...

Only other suggestion would be if you haven't rebooted since installing the driver, you can try that..

Other than that I'm out of ideas... Not sure why the driver is not installing properly. Hope you can get it worked out. Streaming midi to the G-Dec is definitely worth the fight...

You might try searching the the technical support knowledge-base at M-audio's web site. Let me know how else I can help.

So I took a quick look at the tech support knowledgebase at m-audio.com. Found this.
Q: I just installed my new M-Audio device using the included driver CD, but my computer is not recognizing the device and it isn't working.

A: It is essential that your drivers are written and/or officially qualified for the exact version of the Operating System you are using. Check the M-Audio drivers/updates page to find the latest driver for your Operating System.

------------------
In looking at the link to the drivers- it looks like there are different drivers for each Windows XP service pack. Unless the driver on your CD states that it is for XP SP3, I'd recommend going the web site and downloading the specific driver for Windows XP SP3.

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support&tab=driver&serie_ID=4&PID=0f9b57d1a31a74a42bcb466298353d69&OS=x72#tabs

See if that helps,
