I was able to have my GDEC3 30 replaced where I purchased it and the new one seems to work fine. Thank you Fender!

I purchased the G-DEC 3 Thirty on April 1st, 2010, and the headphone jack kept disengaging the speaker for long periods after the headphones were unplugged. Fender support was excellent and the G-DEC was replaced on July 2nd, 2010 at Music Depot in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (705-253-2926). I use the G-DEC for recording my blues guitar compositions onto the computer and have tried to use headphones very sparingly, but was using them this morning and when I unplugged them the speaker refused to engage anymore. So I can only use the G-DEC with headphones...and it no longer works as an amplifier. I called Jeff at Music Depot in Sault Ste. Marie and I will be taking the receipt and amp back in again on April 16th. The problem with all of this is that I live 230km from the store and Jeff doesn't have a G-DEC 3 Thirty in stock, so I may have to wait another month or so to continue recording. It's getting a little frustrating.

I tried inserting and retracting the headphone jack a few times to see if the contacts would allow the speaker to engage again, but instead of fixing the problem, the headphone jack has quit producing sound on the right side and now there's only sound on the left side of the headphones. I'm just going to wrap this thing up until I get it to the dealer.

I'd really like to see a decent 1/4" headphone jack installed on the G-DEC 3 and set apart from the USB/SD card plate. That would eliminate these problems and provide a much more stable product. If I can get a replacement for this G-DEC I won't be using headphones in it at all, which rather sucks when you're recording in your little one bedroom apartment in a seniors building.

For the time being I’ll be using my Fender Frontman to keep playing.

I called Fender Consumer Relations today and I'm beginning to get a little hostile. It costs me about $90 for each trip to the shop along with prolonged periods without being able to record while I wait for a solution. Exchanging the amp may work temporarily until the same problem arises with the new one. Replacing the faulty part with another faulty part is no solution to the problem and only increases my expense and frustration. I was told by Consumer Relations that if I wanted to actually fix the problem by bypassing the 1/8" jack and have a 1/4" jack installed I could do so at my own expense. Is Fender going to take any measures to rectify the problem with the 1/8" headphone jack on the 'G-DEC 3 Thirty' or should I start dealing with another manufacturer?

I've had my G-DEC3 Thirty replaced twice now and will try and avoid using headphones in it from now on. I don't trust the 1/8" jack and I don't want to endure this inconvienence again.

My solution to the problem was to buy a little Fender Frontman and run a line out into that amp which reproduces the sounds created by the G-DEC and allows me to use headphones in a solid 1/4" jack on the Frontman by turning down the 'band level' on the G-DEC.

After playing for several days with my headphones on I unhooked them tonight and now get no sound at all from the GDEC unless I have the headphones plugged in. I have tried switching the speaker setting and rebooting but nothing seems to help. The only sound I can get is through the headphones.........Anyone have any ideas?

Hello - here happened same thing. I was using headphones for a while and after that headphones work but the speaker doesn't.
I had following setup:
- headphones on
- GDEC was connected via USB to laptop
- Guitar -> GDEC -> laptop line in to record my play.

The only solution is new GDEC? Also I should have a warranty also - bought 8 months ago.

Hey rabarott,

Try to exercise the headphone jack by inserting and removing the plug about 20 times. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid that a service center would be your best option.

I am on my third amp now, both previous amps failed for headphone jack problems, exactly as described above, and now the third amp has failed as well. I can hear through headphones but have no output from the speaker. I will call in on Monday and fully expect to be told to take my amp in for an exchange, again, but I am curious if now Fender still thinks there is not a design issue here? At the time of my last two failures, this possibility was dismised as not happening frequently enough to be considered a real issue even though there were several of us with the exact same problem.

Is there any kind of permanent fix for this? I have no complaints about this amp at all other than this. Well, the instructions could be better written, but whose don't.

Hey Valcom,

From what I understand, service centers have been given the updated headphone jack boards for over a year now. That problem doesn't occur in the new boards. Have you been getting replacements or has your amp been actually serviced?

Each time I have gotten a new amplifier. This one has lasted longer as I have been using a 1/8 to 1/4 converter jack and leaving it in the amps headphone jack. That way I am not plugging and unplugging the amps headphone jack, I am just removing the headphones from the converter jack.

Tech support line gave me the address of a service center in town. Are you saying there is a fix for this issue now? Obviously a permanent fix would be great, and I would be curious to know what the correction was. I am planning to take the amp in, but was warned I need to back up all my custom presets. I hope to do that tonite, but I'm not completely sure how to do that. I will try Fuse, but have never had much luck getting on it. Is there a way to just dump all the presets onto an SD card and then reload them after the repair?

My last replacement amp was on 4/4/11 so I got 9 months out of it. The others lasted about 60 days. I use headphones almost 100% of the time as I can only practice late at night. My headphone jack probably gets much more use than normal, like at least every other evening.

Took the amp to the service center a week ago. Today I get a call that it will be at least 3 weeks before they can even get the part, then they have to install it. Not happy.

I PMd you the shop name and location. I'm not sure I did it correctly. They called today (techs name was Clay) and said Fender is is still out of the circuit boards and 3 to 4 weeks before they get any in. You wouldn't happen to have a spare one laying around your lab would you? It took much less time to get a replacement amp. It will be three weeks this friday of waiting already. Now 3 or 4 additional weeks. Any thoughts?

Loren,

It has been another month. I still have no amp, I've been told by the service center that no one has any clue when replacement parts will be available because they are all going into new amps. I called customer service and explained the situation and how the last two times they called the dealer I bought the amp from and authorized a new amp. He says he cannot do that but if I get the amp, pack it up and send it back to an address he is sending me that he can try and send a replacement. Apparently this would be faster than waiting indefinitely for a circuit card, but still. . .

What has happened to the fantastic customer service I got in the past? It is obvious, apparently to anyone associated with servicing this amp that this is a design flaw and a rather bonehead one at that. After two months I would think customer service would be scrambling to make good on the warranty. I asked if there was someone with a higher level of authorization that could authorize my dealer to just give me an amp off the floor so I can get back to playing, but got nowhere. I am about to go postal.

Not only have I been without an amp for two months but apparently I am now out a repair deposit and packing and shipping costs.
